Ecosystem restoration, natural resource management, environmental remediation, and permitting are just some the Corps missions that protect and enhance our environment everyday!
Happy 🌍 Day! The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provides solutions that support our diverse mission areas, protect our environment, and secure a sustainable future. Here at the New England District, we are providing ecological benefits through our protection of ecosystems. Check out our ecosystem restoration project on the Royal River that we are studying to develop a plan of restoring access to an estimated 71 miles of river habitat for federally listed fish species with the goal of providing fish with upstream access to historic reproductive habitat for adults. #EarthDay #NAEEarthDay2024 #USACE

In December 2024, the Philippines faced an unprecedented crisis. Record numbers of super typhoons battered the islands, leaving devastation in their wake. The US Marine Corps, always ready to lend a helping hand, mobilized for a massive humanitarian relief mission. Chapter 6 - The Final Push excerpt The Marines, with the unwavering support of Rachel and her space logistics team, made significant progress in stabilizing the affected regions. However, the sheer scale of the disaster meant that the work was far from over. "Rachel, this is our final push," Major Davis said. "We need to rebuild the infrastructure. Can you deliver construction materials?" Rachel nodded. "Consider it done, Major. We'll send the sandbags, concrete, and tools you need." The last wave of re-entry pods carried not only the materials for rebuilding but also hope for the future. The Marines and the local population worked together to repair the damage and restore normalcy. The story challenges existing assumptions by presenting Space Logistics as a viable and essential component of modern military and humanitarian operations. Traditionally, Logistics have been constrained by air, ground and sea transport limitations, leading to delays and vulnerabilities. By introducing the concept of Space Logistics, we demonstrate how supplies can be delivered within an hour to any part of the globe, overcoming geographical and infrastructural challenges. GAZA HUMANITARIAN RELIEF - Port Gaza aka 'Port Mulberry G' Oh how we forget the past and also to be well prepared for 'back to the future'. Not all civilian crisis resupply has to be by air. In 1944 a similar ship based resupply effort was built by the British and set up for the D-Day invasion in 12 days of assembly: The Mulberry Harbours (A&B). A memory that sprang to my mind 5 days ago when Biden announced the new "Gaza Humanitarian Port". What concerns me know is reading that the US DoD expects it to take 60 days (?) to set up an offshore pier and causeway for Gaza, even with recent experience in Haiti and in Army and Navy training exercises. " 'The whole project was majestic,' British Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill, who had championed the idea, wrote later in his World War II memoirs. 'Deep-draught ships could lie at anchor and discharge, and all types of landing craft could ply freely to and from the beaches.' Mulberry B was a success. In the 10 months after D-Day, it was used to land more than 2.5 million troops, 500,000 vehicles and 4 million tons of supplies. The ...Mulberry has been all but forgotten,” historian Peter Caddick-Adams wrote in his 2019 book about the D-Day invasion, “Sand & Steel.” PS. The scale of the resupply effort for Gaza is similar to the 1948 West Berlin airlift population wise. #gaza #mulberryports #dday80 #dod #unitednations #humanitarianaid #churchill

Best invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are. Great Headline, Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR People talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is ignorant of what's happening around it. It must pull its collective uranium heads out of the sand and prepare to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an ever-increasing pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place, and soon to be out of Fuel" and merely temporary. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now, see what is happening in the world of the fusion industry. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real, https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr

History
We are taught about the Lewis & Clark expedition in school. We are not taught that there was a black man who played a major role in the success of that expedition! His name was York. He was born to slave parents and served as William Clark's servant from a young age. As a teenager, he served as a trusted member of the expedition. His tracking/hunting skills are credited with helping the group reach the Pacific Ocean, despite the harsh weather and dangerous road conditions. In fact, York was praised for his skills: scouting, hunting, field medicine, foraging for food/water, and performing many heavy labor tasks. Lewis recorded in his diary that York saved him from certain death at the hands of a grizzly bear during the expedition. The Native nations treated York with great respect and he played an important role in diplomatic negotiations between the tribal leaders and the whites in his group… due to his dark skin and outgoing demeanor. When the expedition returned, every member received money and land for their services… except York. York asked William Clark to release him based on his leadership during the expedition. Clark refused. York begged to be reunited with his wife, who had been enslaved in Louisville. He even offered to work in Louisville and send Clark all of his earnings. Clark still refused, and in 1811 sold York to a brutal white man who kept him as a slave under harsh conditions until 1816. Nothing was written about York after 1816. Today we must honor York, a black man who made a difference in American history, but has been overlooked in American history books. York Statue - Louisville, KY

After service, what's next? It is the transfer of what you believe in, into what you do, day to day. I believe strongly in the opportunity to blend values from the ADF and Frontline roles of service into protecting the Australian Communities. "Protecting Australian communities with veterans leading the way" is the beginning of our vision. Moreover, our mission extends beyond mere protection; it is about empowerment.
