🫁 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🫁 At Essence Patient Solutions, we are committed to raising awareness about lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. This month, we aim to educate our community about prevention, early detection, and support for those affected. Key Facts: ⚪ According to the CDC, lung cancer accounts for approximately 21% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. ⚪ Early detection significantly increases survival rates; screening options are available for high-risk individuals. ⚪ According to the American Cancer Society, the overall 5-year survival rate for lung cancer is about 20%, but this varies significantly based on the stage at diagnosis. For localized lung cancer, the 5-year survival rate can be as high as 63%. How We Can Help: Educate: We will share vital information about the risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of early screening. Knowledge is power, and by informing ourselves and others, we can promote better lung health. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against lung cancer. Let’s spread awareness and support those impacted by this disease. Join us in honoring Lung Cancer Awareness Month! #LungCancerAwarenessMonth #HealthEducation #EssencePatientSolutions

In a world where it feels like there’s an awareness day for everything, do we still need Lung Cancer Awareness Month in 2024? Yes, we do! Most people are aware that lung cancer exists, but true awareness goes beyond that. It’s about challenging harmful misconceptions and stigma that delay early diagnosis and affect both patients and their families. Addressing misconceptions: Many people still believe lung cancer only affects smokers, but up to 25% of cases occur in non-smokers.[i] This misconception can not only delay diagnoses but also fosters stigma and judgment in the community. As a result, patients may feel guilt or shame, discouraging them from openly discussing their diagnosis or seeking support. Spotlighting subtle symptoms: Lung cancer symptoms, such as persistent cough or fatigue, can often be overlooked as other conditions leading many people to delay seeking medical attention. Increased attention and public understanding of these signs is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment. Encouraging early screening: Early screening is life-saving for at-risk individuals, but many are unaware of their eligibility for screenings, emphasizing the need for better awareness. So, this LCAM, take a moment to raise your awareness of lung cancer and connect with initiatives from advocacy organizations and the patient community to learn more about its real impact. It could make a significant difference—not just for you, but for someone you care about. #LungCancerAwareness #EndTheStigma #EarlyDetection i Couraud S, Zalcman G, Milleron B, Morin F, Souquet PJ. Today is the second and final day of the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition’s third annual Patient Forum. The coalition’s ambition is to see a bladder cancer patient organisation established in every country to support people affected by bladder cancer, advocate for advancing research and provide the best possible information and support for patients. Their latest report highlights how little data there is around the patient and carer experience – data which is key to driving better care. Awareness of the signs and symptoms of bladder cancer prior to diagnosis is low, while young and female patients are most at risk for delayed referral to a specialist and diagnosis, with their symptoms often attributed to other causes, such as urinary tract infections. Patient-centred care improvements are vital for this, the world’s 10th most common cancer and the 13th leading cancer-related cause of death. We're helping by offering BCG-unresponsive patients an effective alternative to radical cystectomy – HIVEC® with mitomycin C. It's about to start a phase 3 trial – HIVEC-HEAT – so watch this space! #medicalinnovation #bladdercancer #HIVEC #HIVECHEAT #CombatMedical

We conducted a survey of 2,000 Americans, to highlight Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The data revealed: ◾ 42% of women & 54% of men were unclear on many of their relatives’ medical history ◾ Just 46% of the women surveyed felt confident they were up to date fully with all their health checks ◾ The survey results also highlighted a lack of awareness and understanding in ovarian cancer – one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women. Clara MacKay, CEO of the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition, said: “Ovarian cancer is one of the most serious gynecological cancers, often because it’s diagnosed at a late stage, making it more difficult to treat. But when it’s caught early, before it spreads, the chance of successful treatment increases significantly. This makes knowing and recognizing the symptoms crucial." Clara also shared these four key facts about ovarian cancer, emphasizing the importance of awareness and early detection: 1. A Pap test does not detect ovarian cancer 2. Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late 3. Diagnosing ovarian cancer before it spreads makes it much more treatable 4. Knowing the symptoms can make a huge difference Read a personal account and get more information about symptoms and useful resources here: https://hubs.ly/Q02RlPG-0 #ovariancancerawarenessmonth #ovariancancer #cancerawareness #earlydetection

May is World Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. The aim is simple: to get people talking about bladder cancer, to recognise the symptoms and to take prompt action for the fastest possible diagnosis and treatment. The International Agency for Research on cancer has recently published new estimates for the global burden of cancer. 🚩 It shows bladder cancer rising from the tenth to the ninth most common type of cancer diagnosed worldwide, with both incidence and mortality rates increasing. 🚩 In 2022, it estimates that 614k people were diagnosed with bladder cancer – an increase of 7.1% from the reported data in 2020. 🚩 New 5-year prevalence estimates indicate that 1.95 million people are living with bladder cancer. 🚩 It’s now the sixth most common cancer in men, who comprised some 523k new cases in 2022, representing 5.4% of all new cancer cases globally. With early diagnosis, there’s a 90% survival rate for bladder cancer. Yet this often doesn't happen, with symptoms being frequently mistaken for other conditions by patients and healthcare professionals alike. Throughout May, we’ll be joining in the efforts to raise awareness of this disease, plus some very exciting news – watch this space! *IARC - International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization, 2022 data #medicalinnovation #bladdercancerawarenessmonth2024 #HIVEC #CombatMedical

November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month and the opportunity to encourage people with a smoking history or those currently smoking to discuss lung cancer screening with a doctor. As the only organization combating cancer through advocacy, research, and patient support, the American Cancer Society has made significant contributions to the fight against lung cancer. This includes $69 million in current lung cancer research, a roundtable working to close gaps in lung cancer screening, and advocacy work impacting tobacco policies and regulations. Here’s more you should know about lung cancer. · Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women (not counting skin cancer). It is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women, accounting for about 1 in 5 of all cancer deaths. Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. · There will be about 234,580 new cases of lung cancer and about 125,070 deaths from lung cancer this year. · Anyone can get lung cancer. · Screening for lung cancer in people at high risk can help find cancer early, when it may be easier to treat. · Lung cancer was once considered a terminal diagnosis, but today there is HOPE! · Some people with lung cancer have symptoms, but most lung cancers do not cause symptoms until they have spread. Don’t ignore persistent symptoms. #OneACS #EverycancerEveryLife #americancancersociety

🫁 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month! 🫁 In Australia, over 15,122 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year, and nearly 85% will face a late-stage diagnosis—that's 41 people every day. This is a serious issue, but together, we can make a difference. 💪 While these numbers are concerning, there is hope! The 5-year survival rate for lung cancer increased by 2% in 2024. Early detection can lead to better outcomes, so it's important to know the symptoms: 🔹 Coughing up blood 🔹 A new or changed cough that doesn’t go away 🔹 Chest or shoulder pain, especially when coughing or breathing deeply 🔹 Trouble breathing or shortness of breath 🔹 Hoarse voice 🔹 Weight loss 🔹 Loss of appetite 🔹 Ongoing chest infections 🔹 Tiredness or weakness Keep in mind that many conditions can cause these symptoms, not just lung cancer. Anyone can develop lung cancer, even if they’ve never smoked. If you notice any of these symptoms persistently, please talk to your doctor. New treatments like immunotherapy are improving outcomes for those affected by lung cancer. For advice and support, don’t hesitate to visit your local Aboriginal medical service. Together, we can raise awareness and work towards a better future for lung cancer. 💚 #LungCancerAwarenessMonth #CommunityHealth #EarlyDetection
