OCA's team in India was honoured to participate at a World Cotton Day special event hosted in New Delhi by the Ministry of Textiles of the Government of India, the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and the Cotton Corporation of India. Successful Completion of the Workshop on Reducing Energy & GHG Emissions 🌱 We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the How to Set Targets and Develop Strategies for Reducing Energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions workshop, held in Tirupur on October 8, 2024. Organized by the Centre for Social Markets, Fairtrade India, Beyond Sustainability and collaboration with Tirupur Exporters Association, with support from the European Union and Switch Asia, the event gathered industry leaders, businesses, and sustainability experts to drive impactful change in the textile and garment sectors. 💡 Key Highlights: 1.      Setting Realistic GHG Reduction Targets: o  Participants learned to set actionable and measurable GHG reduction targets, aligning them with global climate goals and considering the specific challenges of the textile industry. 2.      Energy Efficiency Strategies: o  Experts presented practical solutions for enhancing energy efficiency through technologies, process optimization, and renewable energy integration, leading to cost savings and environmental benefits. 3.      What is Science Based Target and how to fix : o  We have done the exercise how to identify the baseline and fix the target to reach within the specified year.   4.      Roadmap for Continuous Improvement: o  Participants left with personalized roadmaps to implement sustainable strategies in their operations. 👏 Special Thanks: Anand Muthuswamy MR. For years, Indian cotton is sold at a discount of 5-15% in the international market, robbing growers by a whopping $2-bln( Rs. 16,000-17,000 Crore approx) every year, thanks to adulteration, lack of quality consciousness. In the contrast, Australian, Egyptian, Brizilian or the US' PIMA brand commands premium. Cotton Corp, Cotton Association of India, TEXPROCIL came together and developed India's own brand "Kasturi Bharat", which can play a major role in giving Indian cotton a new identity and premium pricing. But ginners must pass-on the benefit to farmers for the long-term sustainability of Kasturi Bharat. The first deal happened at Nandurbar (Maha) between Ram Agro(Seller) & Arvind Mills(Buyer).
