How destinations inspire visitors to become change agents can present a tricky challenge, especially when overtourism adds to the complexity. Wonderful Copenhagen has created a new program to incentivize responsible behaviour with free coffee, museum admissions and more. Simple actions like taking public transit or picking up trash mean more perks for guests and residents. Copenhagen is leading the way in sustainable tourism that's accessible and actionable. “Copenhagen deserves some credit for not shaking a fist at bad behaviour but trying to make it fun and have some incentives and benefits.” - Randy Durband, chief executive of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). What do you think of this initiative? #SustainableTourism #WonderfulCopenhagen #BehaviourChange #ChangeAgents

Reconciling tourism and sustainability is not easy. Since Giovanni De Lazzari and I Patrizia Patti 🐳 founded EcoMarine Malta, our top priority has always been keeping our promise to our clients: to provide an educational and relaxing day in close contact with nature and its wonderful inhabitants. Our sustainable tours are not just about experiencing nature; they are also about raising awareness of the Mediterranean Sea. We believe enterprises like ours have a crucial role in advancing the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. We continue to uphold this promise every time we organize an outing, propose a team-building event, or offer a private tour. The path is uphill, but the rewards far outweigh the challenges. It’s incredibly gratifying to have people return year after year, sometimes even multiple times a year, recognizing our passion and dedication. They help us convey the message that tourism and conservation can coexist. #marinelifespotting #sustainabletourism #conservation #socialenterprise #malta

After a summer of historic protests across Spain over #touristification we sat down to discuss some of its key aspects. The approach of #Regenerativetourism can help the industry become more "sustainable", but do mature destinations like #Mallorca, have room for more growth? And where do all the economic benefits of tourism go? Without entering into the field of Philosophy of Law, it's important to remember that tourism is not a right, tourism is a privilege, and we should treat it as such. #touristification #qualitytourism = #luxurytourism,

At this point we're all too familiar with the 'intention-action gap' - that gulf between what we intend to do and what we actually do. I like to think of it as the 'New Year's Eve - last Friday in January gap' 😄 That's not the only behaviour related gap we're guilty of. Increasingly in #business when we want to effect change that involves customers/staff/service users we recognise the need to understand relevant behaviours. More often than not though what we focus on to drive change, and afterwards what we measure to identify change, are those people's intentions... and we're left wondering why we don't get the results we'd hoped for. 🌍 Studying and measuring real behaviour supports real-world, localised opportunities for change 🔍Bringing #behaviouralscience into the mix enables rigorous, theory underpinned approaches that alleviate guesswork 📈Embedding #UserCentredDesign ensures relevance and supports uptake Brilliant to see this special issue of Journal of Sustainable Tourism exemplifying the importance of research that explores, measures and works towards supporting real behaviour. ps. With 56 days until New Year's Eve it's worth considering what happened in our own intention-action gaps and planning ahead to close them 💡 Ulster University Business School Ulster University Department of Hospitality Tourism and Events Management #Tourism #behaviourchange #sustainability #regeneration
