According to "Dairy Global", milk production in the EU is projected to decrease from 149.3 million metric tons (MMT) in 2023 to 148.9 MMT (2024) due to policies requiring a reduction in cow numbers. The question is, does Europe need to reduce its herd number? To stay within the 1.5 C limit, an 11–30% reduction in CH4 emissions is targeted by 2030, with a 24–47% reduction by 2050. The 2030 target is within reach of European farmers just by adopting the most effective mitigation strategy (Ref). Furthermore, as opposed to the case in developing countries, improved animal productivity, health, and welfare in Europe have led to lower emissions. Ref: https://lnkd.in/gZs43p8K
EU milk production in 2024 is forecast to fall from 149.3 million metric tonnes (mmt) in 2023 to 148.9 mmt, as policies influence the decline in cow numbers and milk production. More on EU policies at Dairy Global: https://lnkd.in/e9c9RzJp
