Happy #TransDayofVisibility to all my trans acquaintances, colleagues, mentors, friends, family, and other loved ones! This day is important for so many obvious reasons. For us allies, it cannot be overstated how much influence toward the normalization and overall acceptance of trans lives, bodies, experiences, and voices that we hold. We must celebrate all the trans people we know and love regardless of who we are standing next to. For example: Got a transphobic family member? Either stand your ground on the issue when you visit them, or, if they're beyond hope, stop going to those visits altogether. But take some sort of action that *demonstrates* your solidarity with your trans friends and loved ones. Don't allow your privilege as a cis person to lead you into a passive acceptance of transphobia in *any* aspect of your life or associations. Don't wear your "ally" hat only when it's convenient to do so. A well wish on social media like this one is great--but if that is all you ever do as a self described "ally" to trans people, then you're frankly not moving the cultural needle very far in the direction of a safer existence for your trans friends. Not just on this day but on every day, we must not only celebrate the trans people who are already visible, but also do whatever we can at every opportunity to help pave the way for *more* trans people to feel comfortable *being* visible. That is the change we have to strive for, otherwise this holiday will only ever be performative rather than the material reality it strives to be one day for every single trans person out there.

3 Simple Ways to Show You're An Ally to Trans & Non-Binary Folks 👇 1️⃣ Changing your Zoom name & email signature is easy and implementable! It's one easy thing that means a ton to us non-binary folks out there 🙏 2️⃣ Make an effort to de-gender your language. We don't often think about how gendered our language is... making small adjustments around your language over time makes a big impact to others! 3️⃣ Ask if the person you're speaking with has capacity to discuss their gender before diving in. As trans & non-binary folk, we want to share our journey & experiences and welcome it - when the time feels right for us 🤗 Do you have other ways you like to show your allyship to the trans community? Let me know in the comments!

Today's #ywcahbg21daychallenge resources discuss how, for many transgender and nonbinary people, accessing gender-affirming care is a crucial aspect of realizing their authentic selves. Gender-affirming care encompasses various medical and non-medical interventions and looks different for children, teens and adults. Despite how critical this care is to trans and nonbinary people's mental and physical health, gender-affirming care has become increasingly restricted and too often misunderstood. Supporting bodily autonomy for transgender people not only acknowledges their fundamental human rights but also promotes inclusivity and empathy, fostering a society that respects and values the diversity of gender experiences. https://lnkd.in/ejr_MyDe

October 26th marks Intersex Awareness Day, which is observed annually around the world to highlight the experiences and human rights issues of intersex people. Some people have used the word hermaphrodite. The word is not acceptable because it is stigmatizing and misleading. Intersex is the correct word. Intersex is a medical condition. It is estimated that 1.7% of the population has an intersex traits, which is equivalent to 5.6 million Americans. Intersex is an umbrella term for variations in sex traits or reproductive anatomy, including chromosomes, genitalia, hormones, and internal anatomy. Some intersex traits are noticed at birth. Others don't show up until puberty or later in life. #IntersexAwarenessDay
