Are option implied distribution statistics published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis more than just a tool for policy makers? Back in January we set out to answer that question. Over the course of 2 months, we extracted a weak alpha in equity markets, reconstructed daily option implied probability distributions of the S&P500 to perform stable regime detection, and tried to hedge fixed income markets. If you ask us again whether this data is useful, the best we can say is "it depends". A big thank you goes to our academic supervisor Kevin Coldiron whose weekly support and relentless feedback helped shape our submission into something to be proud of. I'd also like to thank my teammates Travis Cable, Matteo Di Venti, Amir Mani, CFA, CAIA, George Sotiropoulos, and Wei (David) Qi. I couldn't have thought of a better team to reel in another victory for the UC Berkeley Haas Master of Financial Engineering Program! If you're interested in knowing more, you can find the full problem statement and our paper submission on the website of the International Association for Quantitative Finance IAQF.
Big Congratulations to our incredible MFE24 students! Team Carry Bears among the winners in the IAQF’s 13th annual student competition! Led by the talented Yves D’hondt and supported by an amazing team comprising Travis Cable, Matteo Di Venti, Amir Mani, Georgios Sotiropoulos, and Wei Qi. In January this year, I received an email from IBF’s CEO to nominate a person whom I felt worthy of being an IBF Fellow. I did some reflection, and nominated a 33-year industrial veteran for IBF’s consideration. One of the main criteria for IBF Fellowship is contribution to the industry. I have come across and known many industrial giants. They all have accumulated great professional achievements, and in the process, also accumulated very good person wealth for themselves. But when it comes to contribution back to the industry and the society, sometimes I find it rare. Therefore, when I come across one, I will intentionally seek him or her out, and provide a platform for effective contributions back to the industry and society. Why is it so important to contribute back to the industry and society? Because what defines a professional is not technical competency, that is a given. What defines a professional is also not about the high income he or she gotten, because with discipline, that is also a given. What defines a professional is that his or her existence has impacted the industry and society in a positive way; and his or her existence has also inspired others wanting to join the profession, not because of the glory or money, but because the profession impact others in a meaningfully positive way. In impacting others, we also impact ourselves, because that gives us the meaning of our existence, professional or otherwise. Allen

🌟 𝐂𝐀 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦 🌟 Hey everyone! 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 – 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐀 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐬! 🎉 And, this will be paper which will enhance your confidence for upcoming exams as well. I still remember the day before my FR exam. It was a feeling of mixed emotions, excitement to showcase everything I had studied over the past few months and nervousness about possibly forgetting key concepts. But I found few simple practices that made a world of difference. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨𝐨: 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: If you can, take a moment to visit a temple or a place of peace. Spend a few minutes in seeking blessings. This will fill you with confidence. 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Before heading to the exam hall, take a few moments to meditate. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and visualize your success. This can help calm your mind and center your thoughts. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦: A little hack I found effective was silently chanting the Gayatri Mantra. Whenever I felt nervous or stuck during the exam, I would recite it in my mind. It helped me regain focus and reminded me that everything I had studied was not in vain. 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Remember, you’ve put everything in the hard work and dedication. God has seen your efforts, and now it’s time to present that knowledge on paper. Trust yourself and your preparation. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: Surround yourself with positivity. Remind yourself of your strengths and how far you’ve come. Every challenge you’ve faced has prepared you for this moment. 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲!🌈✨ P.S- Below photo attached of the temple which i used to visit during my study leave and exam days. it always gave me peace and strength. #cafinal #CA #Exams #Nov #sacrifices #ICAI #Final #FR

Do you know how valuable your time is? To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade. To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask a person who just missed a train. To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who narrowly avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who took the silver medal in the Olympics.
