🔍 Socially Responsible Public Procurement (SRPP) Improving Working Conditions in Malta’s Cleaning Sector Public procurement can drive social impact, and Malta is leading by example! 🇲🇹 The Courts of Justice Department implemented the Best Price-Quality Ratio (BPQR) to improve working conditions in the cleaning sector, moving away from sole focus on price or cost. By using social award criteria, the contract ensured decent wages, equal opportunities, and safe working conditions for employees. This Socially Responsible Public Procurement initiative transformed working conditions for many, setting a benchmark for other sectors with precarious jobs. 👥 Public buyers across the EU 🇪🇺 can apply similar award criteria to ensure responsible working conditions in their sectors. This case study shows that procurement is not just about price, but also about making a positive social impact and fostering decent work. 💼 Let’s promote fair work environments in all our procurement processes! 🔗 Read p38 about what evaluation grid was used and the lessons learned: bit.ly/3WrwPJz #WeBuySocialEU #EUPublicProcurement

On valid reasons for termination, in Kagai v Kenga Equatorial Hotels Limited t/a Mombasa Continental Resort [2024] KEELRC 2641 (KLR), the court held that when an employer issues a letter of termination, it must clearly state the reason or reasons for terminating the employee's contract. These stated reasons are what the employer will be required to justify in the event of any legal challenge arising from the termination. An employer who omits to specify the reasons for termination in the letter cannot later introduce new reasons after the employee files a claim contesting the fairness of the termination.
