For businesses in North Yorkshire, there are some grants available from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund -https://lnkd.in/eatN3nhC "Woohoo!" I hear you cry. Well that was my initial reaction until I read that this didn't include businesses in the City of York, where the City of York Council's share of the UK Prosperity Fund is being spent on programmes and other activities - more on that here: https://lnkd.in/esspA3cW I don't see a problem with this approach, I just find it strange that the actions of City of York council and North Yorkshire Council don't align when they are pretty well linked, for example through the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub. There are many small businesses and individuals ready to start their business journey in York, many of whom will already have a business plan and just need financial support to help them make their next move. For example, there are many creative businesses that may need this support to get themselves started or level up their existing business, which could help strengthen York's position as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts. In the meantime, I might just have to move my small business down the road to Escrick if I want to apply for local grant funding🤷♂️

Community wealth building (CWB) should be at the heart of local government strategy and having access to information will be invaluable. CWB means the money made and spent locally is part of a cycle of continuous investment in local people and places. Profit is not being extracted from the area and local communities feel the value. For example, my local family run restaurant pays the living wage and sponsors a local football team. They pay their taxes and care about what happens in the area, in a way that many big businesses simply don’t. Next time you want to buy something, think twice about where your money is going.
⭐️ Launch of the Community Wealth Building Centre for Excellence ⭐️ EDAS, with support from the Scottish Government, has launched the Community Wealth Building Centre for Excellence - an online hub to guide and inspire action for fairer, stronger local economies. The platform will provide resources, case studies, and events to help communities adopt the CWB model with five key pillars: - Inclusive Ownership - Workforce Development - Financial Empowerment - Land & Property Use - Local Spending Neil McInroy, EDAS Chair, says: 'Community wealth building can transform Scotland's economy - creating a fairer, greener future for all.' The first event, 'Plural Ownership in Action,' is on Dec 10th (2-3:15 PM) Read the article here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e7dxEE4c Neil McInroy Insider.co.uk #CommunityWealthBuilding #EDAS
