Having naloxone on hand and knowing how to use it to halt opioid overdoses can be life-saving. 🚨In Maryland, naloxone is available without a prescription at pharmacies, or for free from Overdose Response Programs across the state. Recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and acting quickly with naloxone can make all the difference. Always call 911 right away, as naloxone may offer only temporary relief. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicts 14,675 people died last year of prescription opioid poisoning or overdose. If you missed the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, you can now take advantage of year-round drop-off locations. The DEA has launched a new campaign, Every Day is Take Back Day, to encourage everyone to regularly clean out their medicine cabinet and properly discard old, unused, or expired prescription drugs at one of the designated 17,000 pharmacies, hospitals, police departments, and businesses at any time throughout the year. Help prevent drug misuse before it starts.
