The company's donation of $500,000, including cash and in-kind contributions, will support disaster relief efforts. $250,000 in cash will be divided between the Florida Disaster Fund and 11 community-based organizations like All Faiths Food Bank and Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice. Donate to our disaster relief fund here: <https://lnkd.in/eCtcxKne> "A disaster isn’t easily overcome for a family that is already struggling to make ends meet. Communities that are under-valued, vulnerable, and marginalized before a disaster endure the heaviest impacts after a disaster, suffering longer recovery times and becoming more likely to fall even deeper below poverty lines as a result." "Research shows that for every $1 donated to preparedness and disaster risk reduction up to $15 can be saved in recovery. Despite this, a meager 1 to 4% of philanthropic investment is invested in disaster risk reduction in any given year. Without a radical shift in the way we think about disaster preparedness, some communities will continue to be trapped in a recurrent cycle of deeper and deeper risk, while others escape it." Thanks to Allison Conroe and Marlena Hartz for writing this piece!

In the early days following catastrophes such as those brought on by Helene, many of us outside of the disaster areas share a combination of gratitude for it avoiding the places we live and work mixed with survivor’s guilt, a desire to help mixed with confusion as to how, and joy for those who are ok mixed with sadness for those who are not. If you are outside of an impact area, here are some of the best ways to help: Stay out: Avoid the temptation to witness the devastation first-hand. Let the professionals and official volunteer organizations have all the room they need to operate and avoid unwittingly, needlessly putting yourself and others in danger. Donate: Financial donations to reputable organizations (like the Red Cross, local shelters, or community organizations) that are involved in disaster relief can be very impactful. Stay informed: Local news organizations are far better for accurate, less sensationalized information. Here is a link to an excellent article from Asheville, NC’s Citizen Times on what to do and what not to do to help: https://lnkd.in/eW2yA3aJ Stay prepared: If nothing else, please remember these 2 things. 1) There is no such thing as a local catastrophe. All of us are or will be impacted in some way. 2) Catastrophe can strike anywhere at anytime to anyone, so be prepared and be a good neighbor to others now because one day it could be you.
