Contemporary Visual Artist

2010, Studio Recording (collection @afk_smithgallery) *Early paintings I made in California set forth light as a motif. I was thinking about light and its relationship to the history of the American West coast art and Los Angeles in particular. The paintings I made around that time are fictional sculptural, sketch-like depictions of ideas relating to the California Light and Space movement, post studio practices, architecture and film. In a makeshift and comical way, many of the works for me suggested an historical "antidote" to Abstract expressionism, a mode of thinking and a response to the East Coast and my own education on both coasts. Coming from my own socio-political context and observations, ideas around the control of light (in camera), social order, homelessness, class, and oil production, are some of the themes that also sculpt these compositions. #ContemporaryArt #ModernArt #ArtCollectors #ArtExhibition #CaliforniaLight #etiennezack #contemporarypainting #collectingart #artcollection
