#Amsterdam ranks as having the EU's best #startup #ecosystem! The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024 (GSER 2024) by the American research institute Startup Genome ranks the state of ecosystems for companies in the start-up phase; Amsterdam ranks thirteenth worldwide, and second in Europe, after London. The Dutch capital city scores high on a number of points, including access for start-ups to financing and the availability of #talent and experience. Furthermore, many start-ups successfully grow into scale-ups, and by that metric Amsterdam surpasses Paris and Berlin in the ranking. Key highlights for Melbourne include: 🔹 Ranked #32 Globally: Melbourne has moved up to #32 in the global startup ecosystem rankings, from #33 last year. 🔹 Ecosystem Value Growth: Our early-stage ecosystem value is now $39.74B AUD, a 7.6% increase from last year’s $36.9B AUD. • Funding Trends: Global VC amounts and exit values have fallen below 2019 levels, which is also reflected locally: • Early-stage funding decreased by 28%, from $1.4B AUD to $1B. • Total VC funding declined by 22%, from $8.1B to $6.3B. • Median Series A increased slightly from $8.85M to $9.15M. 🔹 Talent Excellence: Melbourne ranks in the Top 30 Global Ecosystems and is the #1 Oceania Ecosystem for Talent & Experience, highlighting our ability to attract and retain talent. 🔹 Sector Strengths: Notable areas include Life Sciences, Fintech, AI, Big Data, and Analytics, due to their talent density, support resources, and startup activity. Now in its 12th year, the report provides insights into the world’s leading startup ecosystems, emerging trends, and key challenges facing entrepreneurs.
