After 12 months of extensive research, engaging with experts, other schools, teachers, and students, we at Mount Waverley Primary School are thrilled to embark on our journey of Student-Led Learning. Our carefully designed framework reflects best practice and sets the stage for a culture of excellence through a thoughtfully curated, long-term plan. Rather than aligning with the polarised debates currently shaping education, we have chosen a less-traveled path—one that harmonises explicit teaching with inquiry-based approaches to form the foundation of Student-Led Learning @ MWPS. This initiative embodies our unwavering commitment to Student Voice, Agency, and Leadership, seamlessly integrating these principles into daily teaching and learning. At its core, this framework empowers students to take an active and central role in their education, breaking through the ceilings often placed on their potential and enabling them to progress beyond the expected. It aims to nurture a generation of autonomous, critical thinkers and problem-solvers who confidently champion their own learning and shape their future with purpose and capability. This framework empowers our teachers using our existing best practices, our BEST LESSON instructional model and existing technology so that the work is streamlined and managed within school hours.
