We think our data is safe with hyperscalers because why? The still suffer outages and I think most would be surprised at the frequency. If you have any workloads that run XaaS, I'd not only be asking about the data backup, but how you'd recover the configuration within the tenant. I'd still regularly hear people say "It's backed up, it's in the cloud isn't it". I'm not picking on Microsoft; they have been very transparent and have a shared responsibility model, but it's our tenancy, our data and ultimately our JOBS that are on the line. I have spoken with a few customers recently who've mentioned the 'cloud vs local' narrative has resurfaced, whether it comes to data, AI or hosting. 🤦♂️ Cloud scaremongering was popular in the 2000s, but it's a simplistic view that misses the bigger picture. It's not really about Azure, OpenAI, VMWare or 'local datacentres for local people', a better approach is to align your infrastructure with your risk profile and business goals. Data residency, GDPR, security, etc all matter. The outcome of this exercise may mean Cloud is a good fit, or it may lean towards a hybrid or a more traditional approach. At the very least, taking a nuanced, risk-based approach will uncover all risks, not just those present in the cloud. Horses for courses ☁️
