"Ground-breaking studies and advanced technology" These are some of the words The Research Council of Norway (Norges forskningsråd) uses to describe the NORSAR research foundation as part of a comprehensive evaluation of Norwegian research institutes. “Naturally, we are very proud and pleased with the conclusions of the evaluation report. NORSAR is a small research institute with major tasks that are becoming increasingly important for governments and citizens in the tense world situation we are currently experiencing. We have managed to attract some of the world's most talented researchers in our fields, and of course, they deserve all the credit for the conclusions drawn from The Research Council's evaluation”, says Anne Strømmen Lycke, CEO of NORSAR. Professor Scott Johnson and Doctor Yolima Carrillo have been awarded funding under the Australian Research Council's Discovery Projects Scheme for their research project, 'Synergising plant symbionts and silicon to mitigate heat stress in legumes', with collaborators from The University of Sheffield. The project offers a new mechanistic understanding of heat stress processes offering a sustainable adaptation to climate change that could confer significant benefits to #soilhealth and #cropproductivity. It is one of ten successful projects led by Western Sydney University researchers, who have been collectively awarded more than $8 million through the ARC's 2025 Discovery Projects scheme. Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research, Enterprise and Global) Professor Deborah Sweeney congratulated all involved in this funding success. “This impressive funding success reflects Western’s continued focus on sustained research excellence, innovation, and outcomes that translate into impactful economic, social and environmental change for the communities we serve around the globe,” said Professor Sweeney.
