I strongly agree that equality and diversity enrich our societies. But how many educational institutions truly embody this principle in their recruitment processes? In educational settings, forward-thinking schools recognize the impact of globalisation. They understand teachers from diverse ethnic backgrounds bring various forms of social and cultural capital, including multicultural, ethnic, transnational, and linguistic capital - that enriches the learning atmosphere. These are highly valued assets which, if properly recognised and utilised, have the potential to enrich pupils, schools and society as a whole (Wallace, 2018, Maylor, 2022; Teach First, 2023). A diverse teaching workforce can familiarise pupils from all ethnic backgrounds with people from different backgrounds and prepare them for life in an increasingly diverse world. Hearing others' experiences and perspectives can help reduce racial prejudice and improve social cohesion (DfE, 2018b, 2023a, Joseph-Salisbury, 2020, Le and Nguyen, 2019). Have you encountered any schools that prioritize incorporating international perspectives in their recruitment processes to ensure a diverse and global classroom environment? #education #educationresesrch #teaching #diversity #Equity

Education Equity "As the Supreme Court said in Brown v. Board of Education, education “is the very foundation of good citizenship.” Through education, young people learn important values about our culture and democratic society, and about their own values and relationships to others in this society." “For us to continue to envision education as a tool to build a world of justice, equality, and opportunity for all - we must rethink our education systems. University campuses can no longer be places where students just learn the knowledge to succeed in the workplace, but they should make students become good humans above all. Places of learning should equip us with the skills to address social challenges no matter the profession one aspires to pursue.” – Nhial Deng In an age of a poly-crisis with multiple catastrophies intertwining globally to disrupt efforts to build a better world, Nhial Deng a refugee and award winning youth and community activist, shares the power of using education as a tool to build a world of justice, equality, and opportunity for all. It is important we recognise that education is a fundamental human right and every child everywhere must have the opportunity to learn and the opportunity to unlock the doors to a world of unlimited possibilities 🌎. 📖👨⚖️👩⚖️The 14th Amendment and Its Legacy in Talent Development ⚖️ Today marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 14th Amendment in 1868, a pivotal moment in American history that granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States. This amendment reaffirmed the rights and privileges of all citizens, ensuring “equal protection of the laws.” While the path to equality has been long and fraught with challenges, from the Plessy v. Ferguson ruling in 1896 to the transformative Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954, the principles enshrined in the 14th Amendment continue to resonate today. In the realm of talent development, the essence of the 14th Amendment reminds us of the critical importance of #inclusion and equal #opportunity. Just as the amendment sought to ensure equal protection and rights for all, our industry strives to foster #environments where every individual has the chance to #learn, #grow, and #succeed—irrespective of their background. As professionals dedicated to developing talent, we have a responsibility to champion #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion within our organizations. This involves creating training programs that are accessible to all and promoting a culture of continuous #learning. Let's honor the legacy of the 14th Amendment by committing to equitable practices in talent development. By doing so, we not only enhance individual potential but also drive #innovation and #growth within our organizations.

𝐇𝐑𝐂𝟓𝟕: 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 At the 57th session of the Human Rights Council, Mildred Asiimwe / GICJ delivered a joint statement with the International Organization for The Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination (EAFORD) during the Interactive Dialogue on report the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. Her statement focused on the causes of inequality in access to education between people of African descent and the rest of the world. The speaker mentioned racial discrimination as a key factor in the low attainment of education amongst people of African descent, despite deliberate efforts from different actors to ensure advance in access to education. The speaker mentioned the Global Education Monitoring Report of 2020 and the World Bank, which showed that students of African descent face racial discrimination from both peers and education institutions, the lack of diversity among education actors and very little or no consideration of several factors that negatively impact students of African descent, thereby preventing them from attaining or completing education. At the end of the statement, the speaker urged the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent to support states in implementing education policies that support racially integrated schools, ensure diversity among education actors, and deliberate in addressing implicit biases that hinder equitable access to education by people of African descent. #HRC57 #EducationForAll #EndRacialDiscrimination #AfricanDescentRights #EqualEducation #RacialEquality #GICJ #Geneva4Justice #GenevaInternationalCentreforJustice
