On #InternationalMentalHealthDay, ETUCE is proud to highlight our ongoing efforts to address the mental health challenges faced by education professionals. Through the #ApresCovid project, co-funded by the EU, in partnership with the European Federation of Education Employers and funded by the European Commission, we are conducting case studies across Europe to assess the impact of COVID-19 on teachers' well-being. This week, we are visiting Escola de Tecnologias Inovação e Criação and Escola Secundária Passos Manuel in Portugal, conducting interviews with teachers and school leaders. The insights from these visits will help inform our advocacy for better mental health support in education. As individuals, and as an organisation, we feel deeply passionate about supporting the education community in their pivotal role shaping the wellbeing of our children. 💙 Recently, we spotted a gap in data concerning the mental health of children in Wales and commissioned an independent study to investigate. Today, we are delighted to publish our comprehensive report - Disturbing currents: wellbeing and mental health of children in Wales - which seeks to uncover the concerns of parents and suggests practical solutions to the challenges they face. From peer pressure to academic stress, understanding these issues is vital if we’re all to create a nurturing environment in both our schools and communities. 📖 Download our report to reveal the stark findings: https://zurl.co/oYJ9 🔗 #ChildrensWellbeing #ImpactResearch #CommunitySupport #CompassMIS

🌟 We are starting the European Mental Health Week! 🌍 This initiative, co-funded by the European Commission, aims to co-create the future of mental health by calling for action to develop and implement policies, services, programmes, and communications that promote positive mental health using a psychosocial model and a human rights-based approach. At NESET we encourage researchers, practitioners, policymakers and everyone to engage in this exchange on all aspects of mental health. We also invite experts to share knowledge that can bridge the gap between policy and academia on relevant issues such as mental health in education. 📘 The latest NESET report on Student and Staff Mental Wellbeing in European Higher Education Institutions, authored by experts Elena Riva, Kate Lister, and Wiki Jeglinska, serves as a valuable resource to advance these goals. This report provides an overview of the main barriers that affect the declining mental health and well-being of students and staff in Higher Education across the European Union. It also offers key policy recommendations for the successful implementation of ‘whole institution’ approaches in these institutions. We invite you to: 🔍 Explore the full report via this link: https://shorturl.at/txzX2 🔗 Dive into the report one-pager here: https://shorturl.at/dkTV9 🗣️ Explore the event on Mental Health Europe and contribute to the debate during this awareness week! #EuropeanMentalHealthWeek #BetterTogether #NESET #mentalhealth #wellbeing #HigherEducation #StudentAndStaffWellbeing #Europe

World Mental Health Day 2024: Prioritizing Mental Well-being as a Universal Right As a Global Schools Advocate, I am reminded today of the essential role mental health plays in the well-being of our students, teachers, and communities. This year’s theme, "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right," highlights the need for global, equitable access to mental health care - starting in our schools. In our journey toward sustainable development, we cannot overlook mental health. Just as we strive for quality education, clean water, and economic equality, mental well-being must be recognized as an integral part of building a healthier, more sustainable world. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize the importance of mental health in Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. Let’s ensure that every child and educator feels supported, heard, and empowered to thrive both emotionally and mentally. Today, let’s commit to taking action: 1. Advocate for mental health programs in schools and communities 2.Support policies that promote access to mental health care 3.Foster safe and inclusive environments where well-being is prioritized Together, we can build a world where mental health is truly recognized as a universal human right. #WorldMentalHealthDay #GlobalSchoolsAdvocate #SDGs #MentalHealthMatters #SustainableDevelopment #EducationForAll #InclusiveEducation

Great to see Admissions and Compliance experts come together at #AIEC2024 to discuss the importance of supporting mental health at work. The #intled sector continues to face challenge after challenge, with A&C teams often the ones to deliver and enforce the latest legislative and institutional decisions. Remind your colleagues that we’re all human, mistakes can be fixed, it’s okay to ask for help, and, most importantly, we’re saving files, not lives. Thanks for the thoughtful reflections and impressive mind map, Lucy Blakemore.
A popular session on mental health this morning from a less heard POV - admissions and compliance staff. Beautifully chaired by Hang Nguyen with some frank, funny and direct reflections from panellists Mandy Cilento (Uni SC), Julia Hoon (SCU) and Brenda Lee (Curtin University). Fascinating discussions on the impact of local and global events, public discourse and everyday challenges working in International Ed. Thank you all! #MentalHealth #InternationalEducation
