Long-time friend of Études Studio, Martine Syms is renowned for her practice, blending conceptual grit, humor, and social commentary. Through video, installation, and performance, she particularly explores representations of Blackness and feminist thought. We are thrilled to have had Martine Syms for The Kitchen + Études Studio collaboration shoot by Ulysse Lozano. Martine wears an allover shirt from capsule collection, created from a collage of artworks by Constance Dejong, Mary Overlie, and others, originally shown at The Kitchen in the 1980s-90s. Anyone need advice on buying art, Cramer & Bell make it much more accessible.
We recently sourced an incredible collection of all-female artists for the new Varley shops here in London. As Cramer & Bell is also an all-female team, these projects were such a joy to work on and gave space to celebrate some of the female artists who inspire us. Read our feature in Varley's 'Inspiring Confidence' series to see insights into this process. https://lnkd.in/gdX_UiJg

Very powerful, authentic, compelling storytelling for the need to change...businesses, fashion in particular, can be even more successful by doing more of the "right" things for garment workers and the planet...
At remake.world we believe in the power of storytelling, to shift narratives - which is why I am excited to announce our collaboration on this new documentary, that I hope serves to educate and empower the next gen of activists. Nominated at SXSW #BrandyHellville & the Cult of Fast Fashion, an HBO Original Documentary uncovers the toxic origins and culture of the teen brand and the global ramifications of mass-produced clothing, premieres April 9 on HBO Max I hope many moms and teen daughters watch and are moved to take action with us. Dismantling fashion’s excesses is a feminist issue of our time. Thank you to the wonderful and talented director Eva Orner and our friends and partners The Or Foundation Ghana, Textile Exchange and Alyssa Hardy for your work alongside us in the film. #Brandy #BrandyMelville #BrandyUSA #documentary #sxsw

When Tony speaks to the nuances of darker skin. He explains that it is not merely a matter of technical proficiency; it’s a testament to an artist’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity. From comprehending the subtleties of undertones to ensuring colours pop vibrantly, the ability to celebrate and enhance the beauty of darker skin requires both expertise and empathy. In today’s diverse world, where representation matters more than ever, Tony speaks to the fact that artists must equip themselves with the knowledge and techniques to cater to the full spectrum of skin tones, affirming the inherent beauty of every individual they encounter. https://lnkd.in/e5fFCCNX

In her essay "Why I Write," Joan Didion encapsulates the essence of expression and observation, stating, "I write entirely to find out what I'm thinking, what I'm looking at, what I see and what it means." This introspective journey resonates profoundly with the works of the women artists featured in "What She Means," an exhibition that delves into the depths of female identity, perception, and articulation. It offers a kaleidoscopic view of what it means to be a woman in today's world. The exhibition's title, "What She Means," serves as both a question and a statement. It challenges us to consider the significance of women's voices in art and culture. What does she mean when she paints a canvas with bold strokes of color? What does she mean when she sculpts figures that defy conventional forms? What does she mean when she captures moments of vulnerability through her lens? Each piece in this collection is a testament to the multifaceted nature of female expression. Cultivate Art #art #collectors #EmergingArt #Exhibition

An iconic woman! Loved her bold, fearless nature, and style, not hampered or hindered by censure, prejudice, or narrow thinking. Yet another champion challenging age discrimination as well. There are 9O year olds who can beat 20 and 30 year olds at maths, 80 year olds scaling sheer cliffs, and uncovering fossils, that would daunt many much younger persons, physicians, surgeons, researchers, academics breaking the boundaries of knowledge well into the so-called twilight years. Not to mention presidents, scientists and engineers and CEOs et al. who work 18 or more hours daily, constantly contributing to human welfare and progress. Yet, recruiters, and their algorithms, indiscriminately cut out and discard persons above 45 I am told, often even those much younger, on the basis of age...thus excluding large segments of the population with loads of talent, insight, experience and the will, as well as the ability to contribute in swift and innovative ways that only experience and wisdom can bring. How best, and when will this anomaly, and predudice be overturned for good? Human rights of the 'older' generation (elder rights some call it) should not be neglected, as it is a waste of human potential and often detrimental to the persons thus excluded and relegated to the margins of society, which has economic implications as well.
BBC News on Instagram: "American designer and fashion icon Iris Apfel has died at the age of 102. The self-described "geriatric starlet" was known for her cropped white hair, oversized glasses, bright lipstick and chunky beads. US designer Tommy Hilfiger was among those to pay tribute, as he praised Apfel as an "innovator and leader" in the world of textiles and style, who "will go down in history
