Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting an online General Assembly meeting for the project PEARL-DNA, bringing together representatives from each partner organization. Eighteen members gathered to share progress, and the main topics of the discussion were: • Progress updates on key non-scientific work packages: coordination and innovation management, communication and dissemination strategies, and portfolio activities. • Deep dives into our scientific endeavors involving high-throughput systems and advanced DNA assembly techniques. Our approach features a high-density array of airtight microwells, ensuring long-term DNA preservation at room temperature. • Feedback from the Scientific Advisory Board was overwhelmingly positive, praising the PEARL-DNA concepts and the remarkable advances in technology that are pushing the boundaries of what's possible. The takeaway? We're right on track to deliver groundbreaking technology as promised, with all milestones achieved and reports submitted punctually to the European Innovation Council. I wish I could have listened to this one... or better yet, taken part of the full agenda if the European Research Area Stakeholder conference 18-19 September in Brussels. Especially the session on "Empowering research infrastructures and technology infrastructures as strategic assets and knowledge hubs in Europe" and the session "Develop skilled researchers and innovators and attract talents in Europe" would have been awesome to attend. With the hope that Training, Capacity Building and career paths for Research Infrastructure experts was on the table of discussion topics. Today a meeting in Warsaw to discuss the progress and applications of the Holozcan bio-threat monitoring and -detection system. The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The HOLOZCAN project develops comprehensive and innovative means of respiratory, ventilation and environmental biological data sampling that can be used in real-time, standoff or in mobile context, to detect bio-threats in the form of pathogens and bacteria with an handheld device. The handheld device is a holographic optical microscopic analyser with AI-software, which recognizes pathogens in the air as a from the database recognized particle, but also with the spectral analysis of the holographic rings. The latter is really innovative!  

💡 The Role of ERICs in the 10th Framework Porgramme (FP10)💡 In an era of rapid technological evolution, global interconnectedness, and societal challenges, robust Research Infrastructures (RIs) in Europe are more crucial than ever. The European Research Infrastructure Consortia (ERICs) play a vital role in shaping Europe’s scientific and innovation landscape. With 28 ERICs currently operating, their strategic importance is clear. They not only drive groundbreaking research but also align with EU policy goals, addressing pressing issues like climate change, health, and digitalization. As the European Commission continues its support under Horizon Europe, the upcoming 10th Framework Programme (FP10) holds the potential to amplify their impact even further.  🔬🌐 The ERIC Forum underscores the need for increased funding, enhanced governance, and greater collaboration with industry to ensure ERICs remain pivotal in Europe’s research ecosystem. A focus on inclusivity, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, and providing equitable access to ERIC services for researchers across the continent are key to fostering a balanced, high-impact research environment.
