🌍 Why Lifelong Learning Matters Beyond Borders 🌍 Why is lifelong learning a priority for ANE? Isn’t education a national issue? So, how does this concern us when we operate at the Nordic level? 👉 https://lnkd.in/dgrCRXh9 Yes, ANE advocates for engineers and STEM professionals at the Nordic and EU levels. While education and training are primarily national matters, the ripple effects of STEM skill shortages transcend borders. These shortages could hinder our green and digital transition and affect our global competitiveness. The Nordic job market attracts talent, which might seem like a quick fix, but if we leave certain regions behind, we risk weakening the Single Market and missing our green goals. Therefore, driving lifelong learning initiatives at the Nordic and EU levels is not just possible, but essential. Read the post we have written to NORDTEK, which has just been published: https://lnkd.in/dgrCRXh9 📚🌱 #LifelongLearning #SkillsGap #GlobalCompetitiveness #ListentoEngineers Magnus Kjellsson Fin Krogh Jørgensen Gro Tvedt Anderssen Marit Stykket Jussi-Pekka Teini Sigrun Hafstein IDA Sveriges Ingenjörer [Engineers of Sweden] NITO - Norges Ingeniør- og Teknologorganisasjon Tekniikan akateemiset TEK Insinööriliitto | Union of Professional Engineers in Finland Verkfræðingafélag Íslands

This week the core team of lnclusion, Diversity & Equity in Mobility (IDEM), an Erasmus+ Project, met in Darmstadt, Germany, for its 8th transnational project meeting. WHY IDEM? According to the recently adopted ambitious recommendation ‘Europe on the move’ by the European Council, o at least 23% of higher education graduates should have a learning mobility experience by 2030 o at least 20% of all learners “with fewer opportunities” should have learning experience in another EU country by 2027. “But I cannot…!" This is yet too often the reality of people who, for economic, social, cultural, geographical, or health reasons, due to their migrant background, or for reasons such as disability or educational difficulties, or for any other reason, including a reason that could give rise to discrimination under Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, face obstacles that prevent them from having effective access to learning mobility opportunities (Regulation (EU) 2021/817). Although the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) policies are already integral to the strategic goals of many Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Europe, students with fewer opportunities are still underrepresented in mobility programs. WHAT? To enable more equitable mobility opportunities for students with fewer opportunities and to advance a stronger institutional commitment to the IDEA policies, IDEM aims to provide HEIs with 1) a Mobility Model tailored to serve the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and inclusive of all students 2) a Toolkit that will help HEIs to include the different IDEA dimensions in their strategic thinking while further developing their institutional IDEA policies, particularly in the context of internationalization and student mobility. HOW? 1) By bringing together underserved students, university staff, faculty, and other pertinent stakeholders to identify barriers to and challenges during mobility and create solutions to overcome these challenges (Inclusion Training and Bootcamps I & II). 2) By documenting underserved students’ experiences ‘before, during, and after’ mobility via questionnaires. WHEN? With the Inclusion Training, Bootcamps, and the mobility experience data collection completed in 2023-2024, the IDEM project is now analyzing the data and producing the results, the Mobility Model and the Toolkit, to be published in January 2025. Big thanks to our IDEM partner Technische Universität Darmstadt for hosting this transnational project meeting as well as to all other IDEM partners for the intensive collaboration! 😊 #inclusivemobility #inclusivehighereducation #inclusion #diversity #equity #accessibility #EDUFI HigherEd #ErasmusPlus
