Africa -U.S. Business Summit in Dallas-Texas: Monday, May 6, 2024 - Thursday, May 9, 2024 The Africa -U.S. Business Summit is a prestigious gathering that brings together African and U.S. senior government officials, private sector executives, international investors, entrepreneurs, and multilateral stakeholders from both sides of the Atlantic. This year's event promises to be the most dynamic and engaging yet, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. Africa stands at a crossroads. The continent brims with immense potential: innovative tech sectors, a dynamic young population, and rising global interest in its markets. Yet, pressing challenges threaten to derail progress: climate change devastates communities, unsustainable debt limits growth, and lack of opportunities for youth creates social instability. Africa's steadily growing economic and political relevance in the international community continues to increase. This is also evident at multilateral conferences. In the past year, African players have appeared on the world stage more frequently, more cohesively and more confidently than ever before. The key question: How can African nations harness their strengths, navigate global volatility, address the climate crisis, and unlock the power of their youth to drive sustainable, inclusive growth? #Africa #USA #Summit2024 #BusinessCorporation #Partnership #WinWin

JOURNAL ARTICLE | CHINA-AFRICA DIGITAL COOPERATION Dr Sizo Nkala’s published journal article with Africa Insight. This paper takes stock of digital cooperation between China and Africa which has gained strategic significance in the last two decades. It zooms in on specific areas of cooperation, such as digital infrastructure, digital content, and digital skills development, which have had a significant impact on the continent’s digital economy. The paper notes that digital technology is not value-neutral. African countries must still ensure that the technology they import from China aligns with African values and interests. #China-Africa #Sino-Africa #DigitalColonialism #DigitalCooperation University of Johannesburg Sizo Nkala

The Gathering of Africa's Leaders: Who Truly Charts Africa's Future? Year after year, we witness African leaders being invited to sit at the tables of some of the world's most powerful nations. This week, the focus is China, where discussions about Africa’s future are underway. But it begs the question: Are other nations making plans for Africa while the continent itself struggles to define its own direction? Don't get me wrong—it's essential to engage global investors and seek collaboration. But if these talks ultimately result in wealth being transferred out of the continent, how much are we truly benefiting? Africa’s 1.4 billion people deserve growth and prosperity created within the continent, not at its expense.Africa needs a bold, strategic plan—and fast. If we don't take ownership of our future, others will continue to draw the map for us. What do you think? How can African nations best position themselves to lead their own development? Let’s discuss. https://lnkd.in/edGBQggD

Harnessing the momentum from the recent FOCAC Summit, ITC’s Office for Africa held strategic discussions with the Chinese delegation to turn bold commitments into action. At the summit, China pledged an additional $10 billion in financing for African countries, with a clear focus on boosting trade and investment across the continent. Our meeting focused on translating these commitments into results that matter. Through leveraging China’s promise to expand market access for African goods and services, enhance capacity-building programs for African SMEs, and improve trade logistics, impact on communities and the planet, we aim to build the foundations for long-term, sustainable growth. Africa-China trade has already surpassed $254 billion in 2021, and with initiatives like the AfCFTA, we should aim to unlock even greater potential. The alignment of China’s support with Africa’s priorities under the AfCFTA creates a unique opportunity to integrate African businesses into global value chains, driving innovation, industrialization, and job creation. ITC is committed to working with both partners to develop tailored interventions that ensure these opportunities are fully realized for African businesses, particularly for women and youth entrepreneurs, and to maximize intra-African trade. The ultimate goal being to create a path towards a prosperous and self-reliant Africa. A path to a shared future as H.E. President Xi Jinping rightfully stressed. Cheers to (continue) redefining development cooperation, partic. between these two giants and longstanding partners. I've just authored this piece in Economy Middle East on the growing coordination between the UAE and Rwanda (which mirrors deep historical ties). While studying economic development in university I used the UAE and Rwanda as my two key case studies to present a view on "culturally inclusive development" - looking at development as increasing not only economic indicators but also societally specific quality of life indicators. I've spent the 13+ years since living and working between UAE and East Africa and believe more strongly than ever that these areas are doing development right! Please share your comments with me as it's a topic I love to discuss - the precis and 1st paragraph copied here below: As the world shifts towards a multipolar reality, the Global South’s influence is rising. Countries across Africa, the Middle East and Asia are not only recognizing their individual value but also their collective strength when working together. Rwanda’s emerging economic partnership with the UAE is a powerful example of this, rooted in historical trade ties within the Indian Ocean, connecting Africa to the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.
