Regulation is necessary as we all acknowledge. American style wild west is hitting them, and is clearly not the way forward. Here in Europe, we need modern governance, focused on outcomes, and our regulatory frameworks are out of date, and we must figure out how to do it better. The choice must not be "to or not to regulate", but how to do it without killing but actually promoting innovation. Here's an article about how we can regulate our economy focused on outcomes, promoting innovation: https://lnkd.in/dCkibzwF

THE DEVIL IS IN THE (LACK OF) DETAIL The "tech" world won't be in this mess if AI companies had taken appropriate actions before training their language models with unlicensed proprietary content, not fully understanding how they reason and reach decisions apart to guessing the next word and sentence, releasing chatbots in production while being aware of their "hallucinations", not having concrete guardrails to protect private information, and potentially commoditising all forms of human generated knowledge putting society in jeopardy. 1. Prior to training models on proprietary content, developers should have sought explicit permission from content creators and data owners. 2. Invest in deep research to fully understand how models derive meaning, context, and factuality. 3. Before releasing AI models into production, developers should have established clear and robust mechanisms to prevent models from generating false or misleading information (i.e., hallucinations). This could involve real-time fact-checking systems, more stringent reinforcement learning, or integrating models with verified knowledge bases, e.g., Project Dataverse. 4. Develop and enforce strict privacy protocols that prevent AI models from unintentionally exposing or generating private or sensitive information like anonymisation techniques, better data handling policies, and federated learning. 5. Perform thorough risk assessments on the societal and ethical implications of releasing AI systems, considering the long-term impact on job markets, misinformation, and the potential erosion of human-generated knowledge. 6. Set up clear guidelines for accountability, with clear mechanisms to trace decisions and outputs back to the developers or data sources. 7. Collaborate with ethicists, legal experts, and policymakers to align AI development with societal norms and legal frameworks in order to mitigate potential legal issues and societal backlash. 8. Invest in tools that make AI decision-making processes more transparent and understandable to users. 9. Ensure that any use of copyrighted or proprietary content adheres to fair use principles, and explore systems for compensating content creators fairly, such as through licensing agreements or revenue-sharing models. 10. Before widespread deployment, AI companies should have launched public education campaigns to inform users about the capabilities, limitations, and risks of AI systems. This would empower users to interact with AI tools more critically and responsibly, reducing the reported 80% failure rate of AI projects. #AI #MachineLearning #DataScience #Tech #Innovation #Ethics #Privacy #DeepLearning #AIethics #AIgovernance #AIprivacy #AIfuture #AIethics #AIregulation #AIeducation #AIimpact #AIintegration #AIinnovation #AIaccountability #AIsafety #AItrust #AIfairness #AIresponsibility #AItransparency #AIexplainability #AItools #AIethics #AIbias #AIethics #AIregulation #AIgovernance #AIapplications #AIecosystem #AItrust

100 days to turn words into action, even less days (until 26th Jan.) to concretely test the new Commission’s approach to simplification through the upcoming EU Omnibus ESG Regulation. A critical moment for the EU to reduce bureaucracy without compromising on content, ensuring businesses can focus on compliance while driving sustainability and ultimately win the tech race.

Henrik Bodskov joins Dansk Erhverv to discuss tech, innovation, and competitiveness in the EU 🌍 Our CEO recently paid Brussels a visit along with other industry leaders to discuss how Europe approaches tech, innovation, and competitiveness. During the visit, they connected with top EU voices, talking about the importance of consolidation and balance in the tech industry. Among some key takeaways was the discussion that regulations should be seen as an opportunity to conduct risk assessments and foster competitive advantages instead of seeing it as a burden – and how this requires uniform interpretations of the regulations in the EU. Another discussion highlighted the need for a hybrid perspective on the industry. While we must maintain our transatlantic relations and make use of US technologies, it should be done with reason. However, we can be inspired by their approach to technological innovation. In light of this, the group advocated for a more flexible framework with investment incentives to be a driver for local tech innovation, as well as enhancing the opportunity to utilize digital solutions and competencies across the EU. In Aeven, we recognize the importance of collaboration between companies and policymakers for the future competitiveness of the European tech industry. A huge thanks to Nikolaj Juncher Wædegaard, Cecilie Fjeldberg and Joen Magieres from Dansk Erhverv for giving us the opportunity to participate in this insightful discussion 💡 We’re proud to participate in insightful discussions like these, as we recognize the importance of collaboration between companies and policymakers for the future competitiveness of the European tech industry. A huge thanks to the dedicated industry leaders Søren Lindgaard, Thomas Jensen, Stine Mølgaard Sørensen and Thomas Madsen-Mygdal for insightful discussions and great company, as well as to Thomas Skordas and Christiane Kirketerp de Viron. #Aeven #EuropeanUnion #ITInfrastructure #AdaptiveDigitalInfrastructure

I had the pleasure of participating in a panel discussion at the European Parliament earlier this week. Debating Europe invited me as a representative of ISPA Belgium and share insights on how technology supports SMEs and enhances the EU's overall competitiveness. During the discussion, I emphasized that technology is a key enabler and identified three critical areas for success: 1. Investing in digital infrastructure 2. Boosting digital skills for SMEs 3. Harmonizing regulations across the EU and simplifying administrative processes Many thanks to the organizers, as well as Merle Becker (moderator), Joëlle Jouret (Google) and Bruno Tobback (MEP) for an engaging and constructive exchange of ideas. Our discussion will be available online next week—stay tuned! 📻 #PolticalIntelligence

👏🏻 Congratulations to Ursula von der Leyen on being re-elected as President of the European Commission for the 2024-2029 term! As President of the European Tech Alliance, I’m thrilled to see her alignment with our vision. Here are my top takeaways: 🔹 #Competitiveness: “Need a new momentum to complete the Single Market.” We must address current fragmentation and strengthen the ability of EU tech companies to grow across Europe and globally. 🔹 #MakeitFit: “Make proposals to simplify, consolidate and codify legislation to eliminate any overlaps and contradictions while maintaining high standards.” European, national, and regional measures should complement each other, not conflict or duplicate efforts. When developing new EU rules or reviewing existing ones, we should remove outdated laws to prevent an ever-growing pyramid of regulations. 🔹 #Enforce: “Ensure that we collectively follow up on enforcement and implementation.” European companies need a level playing field to grow and compete. This requires strong and consistent enforcement of recently adopted EU laws and a firm stance against any company, large or small, attempting to circumvent EU rules. #DMA 🔹 #SecondHand: “A new Circular Economy Act, helping to create market demand for secondary materials.” For the Adevinta marketplaces, I look forward to collaborating with the EU to extend the life cycle of pre-loved products. It’s time to boost market demand for second-hand products.
