WEBINAR LAUNCH OF WORLD SUFFICIENCY LAB - RECORDING AVAILABLE! I have pleasure in sharing the message below from Yamina Saheb, with a link to recording. https://lnkd.in/ggvDdfUb The WSL was initiated by Yamina and I feel privileged to be a co-founder and to offer my strong support. The Sufficiency Concept was introduced in the 2022 #IPCC Report on Climate Mitigation as policies and measures that avoid demand for energy, materials, land, water and other natural resources while ensuring well-being for all within planetary boundaries. In her inspiring keynote, Ms Diane Simiu (Climate Change Director at the French Ministry of the Energy Transition) emphasized that carbon neutrality cannot be reached without Sufficiency, which alone could cut emissions by 10% by 2030. Although France enshrined an Energy Sufficiency Law in 2015, the concept is still largely overlooked in climate policies worldwide - despite also having potential to reduce social inequity, biodiversity loss and meet other #SDGs. As French Association négaWatt said, consuming less can enable us to live better. Our ultimate aim is therefore to build a Global Coalition, involving regional/national hubs, to ensure Sufficiency is considered FIRST in policy and business decisions. As Ms Simui expressed so well, 'a SUFFICIENCY REFLEX is required in decision-making, not only for energy use but also materials, land use, water, and more'. The Webinar, first of a series, was kindly supported by the World Resources Forum and Sciences Po European Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition. As Yamina said, 'it was an excellent kickoff!' A big thank-you to all who participated.
