Yesterday afternoon marked the start of the in-person #CEI-Sphere's kick-off meeting in Brussels, building on the official project launch that took place online in October. This meeting provided an invaluable opportunity for all partners to dive deeper into the project we will be working on together over the next 2.5 years. The aim of the meeting is to review the proposed approaches and frameworks introduced by the project consortium partners via dedicated workshops, helping to define actions and milestones for the first phase. Central objectives include refining strategies for engaging large-scale #pilots, aligning expectations with the project roadmap, and clarifying the scope and desired outcomes. The aforementioned large-scale pilots, which will officially begin in January with #energy as a cross-sectoral domain, will be supported by our efforts to build on the valuable insights from the #standardisation #workshop held earlier these days in Brussels. The push to extend IoT into remote and hard-to-reach areas is a great concept, but it raises a question: how much of this expansion is solving critical problems, and how much is driven by the allure of cutting-edge tech? In most places where GreenMesh operates - urban areas, agriculture, and industrial sites - there’s already decent infrastructure. Even in rural areas, solutions often rely on local networks or stand-alone systems. But what about true “off-grid” IoT applications? The first thing that comes to mind is monitoring wildlife in vast wilderness areas. This case highlights the potential value of IoT in bridging gaps where traditional networks can’t reach. Still, I wonder - do we need globally complex technological solutions like satellites at all to resolve these challenges, or can many issues be solved with localized autonomous IoT systems?

Strainlabs Pilots Predictive Maintenance Technology on the Öresund Bridge Øresundsbro Konsortiet, which manages the bridge, has long focused on digitalizing its maintenance operations. The bridge already utilizes a digital twin for its 16-kilometer connection, capturing real-time data to enable predictive maintenance. “We aim for the most data-driven and smart maintenance possible. This pilot is an exciting step toward more AI and machine learning-driven routines. The bridge is designed to last 200 years, and we want to ensure that we are already looking ahead,” said Jälmarstål Andreas, technical manager at Øresundsbron. “This collaboration with Øresundsbron is a significant move from theory to practice.
