🚄 Speed. It's not every day you kickstart an initiative that's hard to slow down. Since joining Public Sector Network just 6 months ago, I've witnessed an undeniable demand for cross-sector collaboration come to life: 👉 7 esteemed ANZ academic institutions sign on as Research Partners. 👉 235 ANZ Gov Executives register for our first wave of discussions. 👉 10 major industry partners snap up all limited private sector seats for inaugural first sessions. Spearheading the launch of our Public Sector Research Innovation Council made me realise how ready people are to not just sit around a table but really create an ecosystem for continuous knowledge sharing at the cutting-edge, free from the usual red tape and risk-aversion that stifles innovation. Events truly are an ancillary to a well-defined reason to meet. When you can clearly define that purpose, everything else falls into place. Connecting government, academia, and industry sounds simple enough, but it’s the strategic commitment behind it that really makes it bold.

To advance transitions to a sustainable future we need to challenge our current understanding of scaling and develop new strategies, methodologies and ways of thinking. But what will get us there? Hosted with the generous support of the Generalitat de Catalunya and in collaboration with the Deep Transitions Lab, we will be uniting researchers, policymakers and investors from across the globe to tackle this question together during our engagement week in Barcelona this September. Throughout the week, we will explore how scaling experimentation can catalyse systems change through Transformative Innovation and Transformative Investment. We will look at how the dynamics of scaling are navigated, how public and private actors can collaborate and address our assumptions about paths to success. We will be sharing insights on the engagement week on our communications channels so stay tuned for insights and moments! 🚀💡 The event will also provide opportunities for the next generation of change agents – including university students based in Africa, Europe and Latin America – to engage with investors and explore a shared agenda towards a more sustainable future. Up to 150 participants will take part in the programme, which will be made up of two components: - Wednesday 18th – Thursday 19th September: TIPC member and DT Lab partner activities - Friday 20th September: Conference for the TIP and DT Lab knowledge communities For more details, check out: https://lnkd.in/ePv4XKdv Please note that due to venue capacity, we have limited places for the knowledge community conference. However, we will be sending out a call for submissions and provide more information on how to register your interest. Calling all of my international researcher friends and acquaintances! Looking for an interesting *paid* side-gig assessing top-notch research grant applications? NOTE the deadline is very soon (Aug 11). 'The Board of Innovation Fund Denmark has recently decided to set up four new committees which will both assess applications for the Grand Solutions programme and decide which of these will subsequently receive a grant. The committees are set up with their own thematic focus, and they will each consist of both ‘impact experts’ who have the competencies for assessing the commercial and strategic potential for Denmark, and international established researchers who have the competencies for assessing the quality of the research and innovation of the applications at an international scale.' Themes: “Green Research, Technology Development and Innovation”, “Life Sciences, Health and Welfare Technology”, “Quantum Technology” and “New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence”. https://lnkd.in/dft5Find

Ecorys recently participated in this year’s European Research and Innovation Days. 📝🚀💡 This event brings together stakeholders including policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and the public to discuss and share experiences on how research and innovation (R&I) impacts our society. Participants and panellists have been exchanging their ideas on the future of R&I and its role in making Europe more competitive and sustainable. 🌱🌍 We are involved in a number of #ResearchAndInnovation projects, including the Green Deal Projects Support Office (GD-SO), which supports 73 projects funded by the European Commission under the Green Deal Call. The GD-SO brings together these projects designed to accelerate a just and sustainable transition to a climate-neutral Europe by 2050 and supports them and facilitating collaboration, sharing best practices, and increasing their impact. 🤝 The GD-SO is one of the few projects selected to have a stand at this year’s R&I days and also participated in a main session during the event. Find out more about the GD-SO’s participation in R&I days here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYZv7pY9 #RIDaysEU #research #innovation #green

Excellent resource. Partnerships are vital for impact, and power can be an unseen obstacle.
Supporting researchers to make real-world impact | Knowledge Exchange Lead @ University of Glasgow | Research Impact | Engagement | Gender
🔍 Exploring Equity in International Research Partnerships 🌍 In international research, creating equitable partnerships is vital. The Power Awareness Tool, developed by The Spindle, offers a valuable framework to analyse and address power imbalances in partnerships between the Global North and Global South. 🔹 What is the Power Awareness Tool? The Power Awareness Tool is designed to help partners identify and understand power dynamics in their relationships. It enables a systematic examination of how decisions are made, who holds influence, and where imbalances exist. 🔹 How is it used? 1️⃣ Identify Decision-Making Topics: Partners list important decision-making topics relevant to their partnership. 2️⃣ Score Participation Levels: Partners score each other's level of participation in decision-making, using a scale from "not involved" to "making the final decision." 3️⃣ Reflect on Findings: Partners discuss the scores to understand the power distribution and identify areas for improvement. 🔹 Why is it important? Understanding and mitigating power imbalances ensures that all partners, regardless of their location or size, have an equal voice in decision-making. This leads to more effective, sustainable, and impactful research outcomes. 🔹 Key Insights: Fostering equity ensures local knowledge and perspectives are respected and integrated, enhancing research quality. Transparent communication builds trust and reduces misunderstandings, leading to stronger, more resilient partnerships. #ResearchEquity #InternationalPartnerships #AcademicCollaboration #PowerAwarenessTool

Today I had the pleasure to meet with one of our long-term collaborators, MP Aura Salla. Thank you for the good points you raised about the importance of seeing the European talent gap in a more holistic way! Coders are of course important, but also the whole society must support acquiring and keeping talents - and their families. I would like to add also the importance of building competences for developing and applying technologies in new emerging fields of research and business, to increase the impact of research, to transform business models and to boost innovation. So: technology isn't only about technology, but about how the whole society organises its structures and systems. #technology #competencedevelopment #RDI #digitaltransformation
