🌍 Understanding the Role of Project Management in the EU: A Key Step Forward 🚀 I recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in the European Project Management Workshop, which deepened my understanding of the essential role project management plays within the functioning of the European Union. Through this workshop, I gained invaluable insights into the practical application of Project Cycle Management, from securing EU funding to project evaluation. The experience provided clarity on bridging the gap between theory and practice—something I’ve sought during my studies at the College of Europe. It also complemented my ongoing research and career aspirations, equipping me with tools to design actionable, impactful solutions to pressing challenges, such as sustainable development and green transformation initiatives. A special thanks to Rui Miguel Santos for his expert guidance and for sharing his decades of experience in project management. The globally unique 7th International Project Management Team Excellence Award (I-PMTEA) 2024 competition concluded on November 15, 2024 with astounding success. There were 103 participants in 26 teams from Government, public and private sector companies. The competition ranking is 100% objective being based on the total marks obtained by each team in two real time computer simulations from Prendo, UK on Managing Stakeholders and Project Leadership. Each team’s performance is assessed in UK. Same simulations are also being used by the top 20 business schools and global companies. The i2P2M’s Winner Trophy was lifted by the team from Indian Oil Corporation, Pipelines Division. Launched in 2018, so far the competition has had 602 participants in 163 teams from 49 organisations including from Philippines, USA and Germany have participated. The IPMTEA competition marks are based on each team’s performance in two very interesting real time simulation programs. First simulation requires balancing People, Planet and Profit with 12 stakeholders from 7 countries. The simulation brings to life the universal leadership challenge of maximizing support across a range of parties who have different interests, agendas and motives. There are more than 50 parameters to be taken into account in this project. Participants also gain 1 year of experience in 1 day. The second simulation is more complex as it entails building a football stadium from scratch in 24 months under 50 Million pounds. Simulation covers design stage to execution to closeout. The skill and knowledge of the participants is tested as numerous complex decisions need to be made in all areas of the project - risks, procurement, stakeholder driven trade-offs, contract strategy, resource management etc.. There are 12 stakeholders and the team challenge is to maximise the overall satisfaction of these 12 key stakeholders, with timely completion of the project within cost and with good profitability over the next few years.
