At #KIForumNRW 2024 from KI.NRW, Prof. Thomas Lippert, director of JSC, was part of a very exciting panel on computing infrastructures in NRW and Europe. After a brief insight into the capabilities of the existing JUWELS supercomputer, he demonstrated the wide range of scientific advancements that the future exascale supercomputer #JUPITER will bring us. Prof Lippert used various examples to illustrate how we can benefit from supercomputers of this magnitude in areas such as language models, machine learning, healthcare and abstract areas of simulation. He promised that we will be able to see things that were previously unimaginable - including a new understanding of the human brain. He also addressed the great responsibility that the JSC has in hosting these systems, but also the projects that use this machine, and emphasised the need for German industry to make use of the new technical possibilities in view of global competition. The entire #KIForumNRW panel discussion is available on YouTube: ▶️ https://lnkd.in/gimMPA_g Also part of the panel were Heike Horstmann (Lamarr-Institut), Joachim Koehler (KI-Servicezentrum WestAI & Fraunhofer IAIS ) and Christian Becker (Microsoft). #AI #FZJ #infrastructure #NRW #Supercomputer #exa_JUPITER #FutureIT #Innovation

On October 12th, I had the privilege of presenting my research on predicting drug-drug interactions (DDIs) using machine learning at the MIT IEEE Undergraduate Research Technology Conference (URTC). It was an exceptional experience to be part of this prestigious event hosted and sponsored by MIT, IEEE, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Virginia, and DigiKey. My project focused on developing the AttentionBoost-DDI (AB-DDI) model, combining Graph Attention Networks (GATs) and Gradient Boosting Machines (GBMs) to enhance DDI prediction accuracy. This work represents an exciting step toward using AI to improve patient safety and prevent adverse medication interactions. The conference brought together brilliant minds and fostered an environment rich with knowledge exchange, inspiring ideas, and groundbreaking research. MIT URTC truly exemplifies a commitment to advancing technology in ways that will shape the future. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my work, connect with experts, and be inspired by the incredible research presented. Looking forward to continuing this journey and contributing to the impactful intersection of AI and healthcare! #mit #urtc2024 #ieee #research

Happy to share that our (with Cassio F. Dantas and Raffaele Gaetano) research work has been accepted to the European Conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery - ECML/PKDD24 Title: "Semi Supervised Heterogeneous Domain Adaptation via Disentanglement and Pseudo-Labelling". We propose a neural framework to learn a target classifier by leveraging both labelled and unlabelled data from heterogeneous data sources. While the homogeneous case is largely investigated, the heterogeneous scenario (where source and target data are represented by different modalities) is still under-explored, especially when non-standard sensor data is involved, such as those used in medical and remote sensing fields. Ever wondered how #QuantumComputing can entangle with #AI/#ML? There is a field called #QuantumMachineLearning (#ML). BosonQ Psi (BQP) has been building QML solvers as part of BQPhy and for the first time demonstrating its usage with our newest partner - materialsIN! materialsIn, a venture with expertise in #datascience and #materialinformatics, utilized BQPhy's QML solver to see the benefit in the training part of ML for an image classification problem, viz., surface defect detection in the concrete building data set. Specifically, we demonstrated that with a QML-based Material Informatics solution, we can reduce trainable parameters by 3 orders of magnitude while maintaining similar accuracy. This solution can be extended to various use cases in #semiconductor, #aerospace, #defense, #automotive, and other heavy industries. I'm proud to see BQP partner with some of the leading experts in the AI/ML space, E. Frits Abell and Krishna Rajan, to extend our simulation capacity! Read more about the case study below ⬇
