Last week, I was on a call with Darasimi Hodonu, discussing LinkedIn profile optimization, It was really a great and insightful time with her. God bless you, Darasimi. During the call, one conversation led to another, and she mentioned something very eye-opening that hadn’t even occurred to me until she asked. She asked how, as a fashion designer running an online brand, I cater to international clients who can’t be physically measured. It was a light bulb💡 moment and I realized that many people might actually hesitate to patronize fashion designers online because of their fear of ill-fitting garments due to the lack of in-person measurements. That is why I've come to address this issue for as much who has this concerns. There is something called '𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬' for fashion designers. It operates similarly to physical measurements. However, in this case, the designer and the clients are not just in the same physical space. Let me walk you through the process: ✅ 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞: • Arrange a video call with the client on a designated day. • Decide on the platform for the call. ✅ 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: • The designer provides a checklist for the client: • A tape measure. • Details about the type of clothing (e.g., dress, suit, or blouse). • Footwear information (since shoe height affects garment length). • An assistant to help with measurements. ✅ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥: • During the scheduled call: • The designer demonstrates how to take accurate measurements using a mannequin. • The client and their assistant follow along from their location. • The designer observes closely, ensuring correct measurements and making adjustments as needed. This process has proven highly effective over time, allowing fashion designers to create perfectly fitting outfits for international clients even without physical proximity. I really hope this has been able to address the concerns of people about receiving ill-fitting garments from designers they can’t physically meet.
