The DSMUN Secretariat is pleased to present the theme for the 17th edition of The Doon School Model United Nations Conference: "Musings of a Divided World, Resolutions of a United One" The world is disjointed with its distinct opinions and conflicting ideologies. At DSMUN’24, we believe in creating a platform where problems can be scrutinised and all enduring conflicts can be tackled. With the escalation of global conflicts, it is no secret that the world is integrated with divided viewpoints and we feel that it is essential to come up with solutions to all the pressing global concerns. Our divided world yearns for bold initiatives and healthy discourse that bridge the gaps of mistrust and misunderstanding. The conference acts as a microcosm of the world at large, and the world, in all its complexity, is conducive to conflicting perspectives. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to address urgent concerns in our community through open dialogue. We are unequivocally committed to instilling a sense of cooperation among all and hope that delegates engage in meaningful debate to restore world peace and harmony! #DSMUN #ModelUnitedNations #UN #TheDoonSchool #ConferenceTheme

We have just concluded two brilliant days of EASSH – European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities General Assembly with almost 100 representatives from EASSH members. I want to thank all the members for their support and the speakers to make a second memorable day. Thanks Eszter Lakos, Henriette Van Eijl, Sergej Možina, Barbara Prainsack, Angela Liberatore, Nikos Kastrinos, Aziz Naji, Ioannis Sagias, Frank Siebern-Thomas, Sven Schade. Also a special thanks to Silvana Colella after three years of a wonderful collaboration and to Joe O'Hara EASSH new president and Jonathan Deer, Maribel Glogowski, Eleanor Smith and Soraya Fahmy for their hard work, encouragement and enthusiasm in continuing supporting EASSH and me personally. The GA focused on the importance to grow the visibility of SSH research results at the European level, through open science and large programmes of research funding. We urge the EU to reserve comparable funding to SSH research for the understanding of European major social shocks which impact on all aspects of our lives, from economy to development and social progress. We also urge MS to provide a strong investment in long-term SSH-led research programmes at national level, which are the basis for larger and more dynamic contributions in international collaboration and deep understanding of the regional economic diversity of Europe which hamper EU competitiveness. Important studies of Andrés Rodríguez-Pose are key for future policies. EASSH – European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities over 75 members and their partners (another 13 umbrella organisations co-authoring latest position paper on SSH in FP10: https://linkd.in/d7v44XP6) urge science policymakers to invest in all the research that matters for a prosperous future

📝New content added on Ideas on Europe by JCMS: 'JCMS 20th Anniversary Symposium: What does the Arrival of Planetary Politics tell us about normative power and the European Union?' Readers of the Journal of Common Market Studies may be surprised and perhaps confused to see references to the speculative fiction (SF) film Arrival and ‘planetary politics’ in this symposium of the premier journal for the study of the European Union (EU). What can we learn from a SF film or the unheard-of politics of the planet in our study of EU politics? might be a good question. EFA endorsed the 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 issued by Culture Action Europe (CAE) 👇 On 24 September, CAE convened a meeting of networks, where we collectively raised a concern: increasing political intervention by governments in the work of cultural organisations across Europe. We stand against restrictions on artistic freedom, freedom of expression, and organisational autonomy. To safeguard these essential rights, we are calling upon European institutions to: 🔹𝐔𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐔 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Take action to comply with Articles 11 and 13, protecting freedom of expression and artistic autonomy. 🔹𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬: Establish a European observatory on artistic freedom to monitor and report on developments. 🔹𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: Investigate the state of artistic freedom in Europe and implement measures that prevent censorship, political interference or intimidation. Cultural institutions are vital defenders of democracy and their autonomy must be safeguarded. Read the full statement: https://lnkd.in/d3_z7u_t

#EURegionsWeek Cohesion Policy seminar: AEIDL joining forces with RSA CPnet and JRC! On 9 October 2024, the Regional Studies Association Research Network on Cohesion Policy (#CPNet) and the EU Joint Research Centre REMO team are co-organising, as part of the EU Regions Week, a session on the future of #CohesionPolicy. The workshop, entitled “How to reconcile Growth and Convergence. Exploring the neglected dilemma of Cohesion Policy” will seek to address these key strategic questions: - Can cohesion policy promote overall growth while also delivering regional convergence? - Can the policy objectives co-exist under the policy remit without tensions? - Where should the balance lie between the two? AEIDL will be facilitating this discussion among scholars and experts about equity-efficiency trade-offs faced by cohesion policy and avenues to address them. The topic will be addressed from both a theoretical and empirical perspective, by presenting work from academia, RSA #CPnet and the JRC REMO team. 📅 Wed 09/10/2024, 09:30 - 10:30 CET 🔑 Code: 09WS241668 📍 Albert Borschette Congress Center, Room AB-3A, Brussels Limited places. We'll be in attendance, and also presenting. Paul Slater, Grace Brown and Louis McCulloch will present their paper on semi-automated identification and dimensioning of seabed boulders, and I'll present on mapping risk to offshore wind farm cables in 3 dimensions. We've focussed a good chunk of development time over the past 2-3 years addressing both of these industry hot topics, and we've hopefully got some useful insights to share. Hope to see some of you there! #geography #gis #gmgeo #geospatial #cbra #geoscience #offshorewind #renewables #geophysics Global Maritime
