Eurelectric’s Post

During today's Energy Council, Ministers will exchange views on the priorities for the next legislative cycle and the future of energy policy. Here are our views on how to promote affordable electricity 👉 https://lnkd.in/dKTSpQmP In 2025, the European Commission will put forward an 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 to support industries and households throughout the transition. To make #electricity more affordable, we need: ▪️ Massive deployment of more homegrown renewable and clean electricity ▪️ Electrification: in a net-zero scenario, direct electrification delivers three- to fivefold energy-efficiency improvements for end users, alongside the decarbonisation benefits of a renewable and clean energy mix.  ▪️ Long-term contracts such as Power Purchase Agreements (#PPAs) and Contracts for Difference (#CfDs) help transfer the benefits of renewable and clean energy to consumers.  ▪️ Mainstream flexibility both at the demand side and supply side. ▪️ Implementation of the agreed electricity #MarketDesign to empower consumers ⚠️ We caution interventions regarding energy markets: short-term measures – including certain recommendations in the #DraghiReport – could have the opposite of the intended effect by distorting market dynamics, increasing system costs and ultimately eroding investor confidence at a time when their capital is crucially needed. #energy #electrification #decarbonisation
