✨Meet the People Behind Our Research!
Let us introduce you to Marcus Nömm, PhD researcher:
"For my PhD project, we will investigate the incidence and risk factors of postoperative delirium in patients treated and operated on for gastroesophageal cancer. Patients diagnosed with postoperative delirium will be invited to participate in a follow-up interview study to describe their experiences too. We will also conduct a register-based study using data from the National Register for Esophageal and Gastric Cancer (NREV), focusing on the incidence and risk factors for neurological complications, including postoperative delirium.
My interest in research began with a quality improvement study I conducted in my anesthesia department at the hospital. I followed up with patients after surgery, and found it very rewarding to meet them postoperatively and see how well they had recovered. This experience led me to connect with Professor Ulrica Nilsson, with whom I discussed potential research projects. Before meeting prof Ulrica, I was unaware that nurses could pursue a PhD!
I started my PhD in January 2024, so I'm just beginning my journey. In addition to taking research courses, I'll start recruiting participants for my first study this fall. When I’m not conducting research, I work clinically as a nurse anesthetist."
