It is #WorldThrombosisDay as we learn more about the basis of clot formation and mechanisms that contribute to disease expression, we gain more insights to treatment and perhaps prevention. Basking Biosciences Inc is leading the charge in a “double reversal”. The first reversal is clot formation up to an extended period of time, perhaps 24 hours, and if indicated, a specifically designed reversal companion agent. Solas BioVentures invested in this potential game changer after consideration of two observations. 1. Clinically it was more important to memorize the reasons to NOT give a currently available “clot buster”, once given, there is no going back! 2. The number one piston airplane sold in 2023 was the Cirrus 22T. It flies incredibly well as advertised, but the deal sealer, is the incorporated parachute. No one attempts to break a clot and encounter a bleed, nor fly a plane and navigate a crash, but both scenarios require skill and a heckuva of a luxury item, some type of bail out mechanism. Both of these examples have excelled at planning on the what if as well as the planned design function. Great ingenuity by Bruce Sullenger and Shahid Nimjee for thinking differently at Basking and to the remarkable brothers, Dale and Alan Klapmeier, Cirrus founders.
