European Public Health Alliance (EPHA)’s Post

EPHA is proud to see Alessandro Gallina featured by the WHO Regional Office for Europe for his powerful advocacy in public health. By championing evidence-based policies outlined in the new Alcohol Policy Playbook, Alessandro is helping expose the true costs of alcohol-related harm and supporting policies that prioritise community health over industry interests. EPHA fully supports this essential resource and its role in shaping stronger, health-focused policies. Well done Alessandro! 👏

🚨 Across the globe, public health experts are sounding the alarm: each year, billions are spent on treating the consequences of alcohol-related harm, including #cancer and liver disease. And who foots the bill? Not the industry — but our healthcare systems, our governments, and our communities. International organizations working in public health unite behind WHO/Europe’s newly launched Alcohol Policy Playbook. “We are proud to endorse the WHO’s new Alcohol Policy Playbook, an invaluable resource that exposes the tension between industry profits and the health of nations. This Playbook equips policymakers to confront industry influence head-on, providing evidence-based insights that dispel the myths surrounding alcohol's supposed benefits and underscore its profound health harms,” said Dr Katherine Severi, Chief Executive of the Institute Of Alcohol Studies. Similar voices can be heard from other civil society organizations. “The choice is clear: allow profit-driven narratives to shape our health policies, or empower our communities with the truth, grounded in solid scientific evidence. People deserve data that easily and unequivocally illustrates the dangers of alcohol as a risk factor for numerous diseases and its broader impact on our society,” said Alessandro Gallina, Senior Policy Manager for non-communicable disease prevention at the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA). “With the new WHO Playbook, EU policymakers and health advocates now have a powerful tool to push back against profit-driven narratives and put public health first,” adds Alba Gil, Policy Officer for cancer prevention at the Association of European Cancer Leagues.  Swipe through the slides to read more quotes in support of the #AlcoholPolicyPlaybook. #EUPHApresident Czy mógłbyś uprzejmie poinformować środowisko medyczne i zdrowie publiczne o brutalnej napaści fizycznej, której poddany został Polish-American Hiv expert i Lgbtq lekarz-naukowiec przed krakowskim instytutem zdrowia publicznego w Polsce?
