Vincent Geest et al. compared edema volume (EV) and midline shift (MLS) as imaging biomarkers of ischemic edema and predictors of malignant infarction and very poor clinical outcome in the early follow-up of CT patients with large infarcts, finding that EV may be an accurate and direct quantitative imaging biomarker when assessing ischemic brain edema in infarcts of all sizes. #EuropeanRadiology 🔗 https://buff.ly/3QjGTRB

Adverse plaque features aim to identify morphologies that increase the risk of later Major Adverse Cardiac Events (MACE). These imaging biomarkers derived from CCTA have been shown to increase the hazard of MACE, above and beyond stenosis and calcification. Also, Evaluation of adverse plaque characteristics is highly subjective and therefore these markers suffer from inter- and intrareader variability. #coronary #computedtomography #ctscan #cardiacct #ctangio

🚀 We just published a new article in PLOS ONE! 🚀 📄 Title: Particle swarm optimization solution for roll-off control in radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors: Optimal search for PID controller tuning ✨ Summary: We explored an innovative approach using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to tune PID controllers in radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of liver tumors. Through ex-vivo experiments, we obtained a 9th-order transfer function and applied PSO to optimize the PID parameters. The results are impressive: 0.605% overshoot, 0.314 seconds rise time, and 2.87 seconds settling time. Analyzing 19 simulations, the PID gains proved to be highly efficient. The PSO-based PID controller showed enormous potential in mitigating roll-off effects during RFA, significantly reducing the risk of incomplete tumor ablation. This innovation has the potential to drastically improve clinical outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma treatment, reducing recurrence rates and minimizing collateral damage. Our strategy offers a practical and advanced solution to enhance the effectiveness of RFA. 🔗 Link to the full article: https://lnkd.in/d6xvUtQn #Research #Innovation #Health #Technology #RadiofrequencyAblation #Optimization #PSO #PIDControllers #HepatocellularCarcinoma #Science

Today’s #ThursdayDiscovery sheds light on the research by David B. Jaroch et al., demonstrating how Pressure Enabled Drug Delivery (PEDD) significantly enhances the penetration of therapeutic microspheres into liver tumors. This study, utilizing the TriNav device, showcases the power of advanced drug delivery techniques to improve treatment efficacy. 🔍 Visiopharm software was utilized for image analysis to quantify the signal intensity of fluorescently labeled glass microspheres in tumor tissues. The software employed a Deep Learning algorithm to differentiate between normal liver and tumorous tissue and to measure the penetration of microspheres into the tumors. The analysis showed significant increases in microsphere penetration into tumors with PEDD compared to conventional methods. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gCt9NFK3 #oncotopixdiscovery #livercancer #staycurious
