What's the difference between Output and Outcome and how does it matter how a cleaning company look's at this? It is simple really. OUTPUT: If you are looking at output then all a company will care about is how much area can a cleaner can clean in a certain amount of time - for example can they clean 300 square meters per hour or maybe can they clean 400 square meters per hour. You maybe have during a site walkthrough seen certain cleaning companies wanting to know the size of the site, how many toilets etc and not much else. They are concerned with one thing - OUTPUT. OUTCOME: If you are looking at outcome, then output whilst needs to be considered is not what a good cleaning company will focus on. They are wanting to know the outcome, the end result. Yes, a cleaner needs to cover an area but what was the end result. I suppose as we say - is the area clean or has it been left to at "best" to look clean and at worst just not cleaned well at all. Don't you want a cleaning company to be concerned with Outcome over Output? Is this the reason why now or in the past your experience with a cleaning company has been at best okay or at worst, just plain frustrating? So how does this get fixed? It is a simple solution - In a scope of works, instead of just asking or being supplied a list of tasks to be done, ask for an expected outcome as well. Expect to see one that is specific and one that can measured and expected. For example expect to see when it comes to amenities cleaning you see: “The area is to be left free from any soiling or debris. All necessary wall, door and hand washing and drying surfaces to be cleaned with a pre-determined cleaning solution that delivers a sanitised surface. All internal and external surfaces of toilets and urinals are to be cleaned, leaving no visible soiling or staining. Floors are to vacuumed to capture all dead skins cells, hair and other small particles to prevent them being disturbed and then to remain in the air to re-settle in the area. All bins are to be emptied, new liner installed and cleaned as needed. All floors are to be scrubbed using an iMop with red brushes attached and the correct cleaning solution applied.
