The US Energy Department announced that it plans to loan $7.54 billion to Stellantis-Samsung joint venture for two EV battery plants in Indiana 🇺🇸, which will supply 670,000 vehicles annually by 2027. 2. Stellantis 🇺🇲🇫🇷🇮🇹 announced that the CEO Carlos Tavares resigned following a 40% stock decline and a $10.6 billion cash burn forecast. Chairman John Elkann will lead an interim committee. 3. GM 🇺🇸 announced it will sell its $1 billion stake in a Michigan battery plant to LG Energy Solution. The companies also extended their partnership to develop prismatic battery cells. 4. Volkswagen 🇩🇪 workers announced strikes at nine German plants after the company demanded 10% wage cuts. The company threatens plant closures while workers plan escalating strikes unless negotiations succeed on December 9. 5. India's Corporate Affairs Ministry 🇮🇳 announced that it is investigating Hero Electric, Benling India and Okinawa Autotech for fraudulently claiming $35 million in EV subsidies with Chinese parts. This article highlights that DHL has #introduced #differentiated #pricing for "#heavy #parcels" from 10-20 and 20-31.5 KGM. This is #driven #by #German #Law that aims to protect the people handling and delivering these heavy parcels. The logic in the law makes sense (to me). So, we may see similar laws in more (and more) countries. Not sure #how #this #will #affect the #parcel #delivery #marketplace. Will the heavy parcels become a(n ever) smaller proportion of the parcel delivery numbers because they "disrupt" the "normal" handling associated with the "lightweight"parcels. And if so, who will then be delivering the heavy parcels? GERMANY / USA: Inflation Reduction Act German car manufacturers miss out on the IRA The USA is paying billions in premiums for electric cars. However, European vehicles are largely excluded. A final attempt at negotiations has failed - and an agreement seemed to be within reach. 05.04.2024 Berlin, Brussels, Washington. European car manufacturers are still unable to benefit from large parts of the e-car subsidy in the USA. At a meeting between the EU Commission and the US government in Leuven, Belgium, no agreement was reached on the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) on Friday. After the meeting, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo emphasised the importance of cooperation with the Europeans on trade and technology issues. However, they made no concessions on the matter. The sixth ministerial meeting took place under the umbrella of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC), a regular format for dialogue between Brussels and Washington. Friday's meeting was the last before the US presidential elections in November - and therefore, according to government circles, the last chance before the elections to open up the IRA. This is of particular concern to the important German automotive industry. "The partners are once again missing the opportunity to send an important political signal in favour of deepening transatlantic cooperation and promoting battery value chains on both sides of the Atlantic," Hildegard Müller, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), told Handelsblatt.

After VW job announcements now Bosch. There’s not much good news coming out of Germany at the moment, and that has to be a warning to us all. We live in a circular economy, if 7,000 more people stop contributing to the economy thousands more too will be effected, people can’t afford the new cars post Covid, inflation means they are focusing on feeding their families not buying cars. My Fathers First Salary enabled him to buy three cars annually. My first Deloitte annual salary 25 years ago allowed me to buy 1.5 cars. My Sons first salary will take him two years to buy 1 car. At this rate my grand Children will take 4 to 5 years to buy one car! The car supply chain is struggling. 🚗 whether you are left or right politics we are all getting poorer and having to work harder. The economic model is not working. Further no one is looking at the big picture if we ride bicycles and drive electric cars that don’t need servicing the fact it there’s no VAT and duty collected on fuel, no VAT on servicing and repairs, who’s going to pay for the tax? Oh let’s get it from the poorest farmers, put VAT on education and increase the cost of employing people? As in the UK? Watch this space, as at the same time number of tax payers is falling fast in Germany as the Germans did not have enough children. And the costs of looking after a longer living older population of baby boomers spiral. A perfect storm!
