It’s how you frame it. Society views success as material and monetary wealth. I loathe both and am quite vocal in telling my older students ts that. I value hard work, resilience, progress (not attainment), manners. In fact at parents evening I always start my complementing parents for the job they’ve done and thanking them for letting me teach their child. Who else does this? Parents never get told what a good job they’re doing so naturally they’ll judge their kids on extrinsic values rather than intrinsic and more personal measures.
