Wrapping up a super exciting year of constant change: After almost 7 years as a lawyer at a big law firm, I took the plunge into the in-house world - now that the year comes to an end, I can confidentially say: no regrets! When I celebrated my departure from Clifford Chance Germany with many companions, mentors and friends in March 2024, the thought that - if in doubt - there is a way back into the world of law firms made my decision feel more comfortable. I remain firmly convinced that this way back is possible and this might give confidence for colleagues racking their head around thoughts of professional change. However, good news for me: it won't be necessary 😎 In the first few weeks after starting at Solventum and leading the DACH+NL legal department of a new fortune 500 MedTech company two observations played a key role for my new beginning: (i) working for Clifford Chance provided me with a fantastic toolbox to create value in-house and (ii) my secondments at Amazon and Sanofi have been worth more than gold. Backed up with these two findings and with amazing new team members around I had a great start to an exciting journey. This journey literally took me to different Solventum sites in Europe where amazing people cut time off their busy schedules to provide me a unique onboarding experience. A big thank you to all those #solvers! Swapping the law firm suit for protective goggles was the most exceptional professional change of 2024. Changes always bring up- and downsides: I do miss the short and enlightening discussions with my Clifford colleagues about daily German legal struggles. Fortunately, my network is loyal and still answers my calls (non-billable, if appropriate;).  What I don't miss are short deadlines, night shifts and weekend work. The flexibility and time gained will directly be invested in the most significant change of the upcoming year: becoming a dad. Changes and stepping out of the comfort zone keeps you excited and the road sunny;) Wishing everyone a great start into 2025 and a year of amazing changes ahead!

That was about how to protect your innovations through patents, conduct professional patent searches, and distinguish patents from other intellectual property protections while enjoying pizza and networking with fellow entrepreneurs. Creating the tools to intuitively manage all the intricacies that come with shopping for, accepting,  and litigating cases within referral relationships is the legal-space epitome of the disruptive innovation Christensen so aptly, but loosely, envisioned at the dawn of the internet-meets-business-meets-the-general-public era where he once stood.
