Calories on Menus - Is it enough? If you were unaware, since April 2022, large businesses have been required to display calorie information on menus and food labels. Businesses with 250 or more employees in England, including cafes, restaurants, and takeaways, have been forced to display the calorie information of non-prepacked food and soft drink items prepared for customers. I have questioned these last years if this has been enough to support people to make healthier choices. I am all for education and supporting people to make informed choices regarding their food, but does the government do enough? Why limit it to businesses with 250 or more employees? Why not make it as standard across the board? Also, why not fix the faulty Traffic Light System that food manufacturers abuse to manipulate their customers to make choices that they think are healthy but aren't? Why allow companies to label their food healthy when it isn't? Mark me something needs to change. Unless something changes soon, our NHS will collapse under this growing demand of people who are being made unhealthy thanks to the food we are eating. According to Diabetes UK, the cost of diabetes to the NHS is over £1.5m an hour or 10% of the NHS budget for England and Wales. This equates to over £25,000 being spent on diabetes every minute. Shoprite's level of innovation can no longer be ignored. Anything I need, I personnaly order from Checkers for delivery. Now they are pivoting into financial services (FS) leveraging their significant customer base. Telcos on one hand are aggressively moving into FS space and now grocery retailers also want to eat their lunch in FS. New digital banks were already eating some of the FS pie. Very interesting times of disruptive innovation in FS. How are incumbent banks strategically responding to all of this disruption or they simply believe that it is business as usual because of their strong balance sheets...well unfortunately it is not.
