For the first time, a fully automated robot, controlled by AI, performed a cavity treatment on a human patient. 🦷🤖 Oops, are we dentists about to become obsolete? Well, not really—but before we get into that, here's what this robot just did: This advanced system, developed by Perceptive, operates in two stages: first, a handheld scanner creates a 3D model of the patient's teeth. Then, the autonomous robot steps in, performing treatments like fillings and crowns in just 15 minutes. One of the most fascinating aspects of this robot is its ability to adapt to patient movement. Through advanced tracking systems and real-time adjustments, the robot can continue working even if the patient shifts slightly during the procedure. This means less discomfort and a smoother experience for the patient—an impressive feat of engineering! Now, while this technology is impressive, it's still in its early days. As a dentist myself, I'm not against the use of tech or AI—in fact, I embrace it. We use advanced technology every day to make our jobs easier and more precise, and that's exactly how I see innovations like this robot dentist. That's why I strive to stay updated on the latest tech and keep my colleagues informed as well. Sure, some tasks may eventually be taken over by robots, maybe even a lot of them. For now, though, we're still the ones holding the tools... I’m excited to see how technology evolves to handle more complex cases, such as treating anxious or challenging patients, including children. These situations require a high level of human empathy and skill—challenges that even experienced professionals find difficult. It will be fascinating to see how machines address these aspects in the future. After all, being a doctor involves much more than just technical skills; it’s about interacting with people and understanding their needs. Technology can undoubtedly assist in procedures, but it can't replace the human connection that's essential in healthcare, yet. Follow me Diella Uka for more. The advanced dental system developed by Perceptive is revolutionizing oral care with its two-stage process. First, a handheld scanner captures a detailed 3D model of the patient’s teeth, ensuring precision in diagnosis and treatment planning. This model allows for accurate visualization of dental issues, such as cavities or misalignments. Following the scanning, an autonomous robot takes over, performing procedures like fillings and crowns with high precision. The robot's ability to execute these treatments autonomously not only enhances accuracy but also reduces treatment times and improves patient comfort, offering a glimpse into the future of dental care through automation and robotics. We’re pleased to announce that we led a $47M growth investment in Nym, a leader in autonomous medical coding. Nym’s mission is to help simplify the US healthcare system and reduce the country’s outsized administrative burden to ultimately allow healthcare providers to focus on patients and reduce the cost of care. Leveraging AI and clinical language understanding technology, Nym is able to decipher medical charts and aims to accurately assign medical codes quickly, securely, and in real time, help reduce the associated time and costs. The investment aims to accelerate the expansion of Nym’s multi-specialty solution to support new care areas. Rotem Shacham, Director at PSG said, “In our view, autonomous medical coding is the clear direction of travel for the healthcare industry due to the persistent shortage of medical coders and unmitigated costs, among other factors. We believe Nym is set to maintain its position as a leading autonomous medical coding provider due to its AI-powered engine’s ability to help improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and compliance, enabling providers to focus on patient care.” Read more about the investment below: https://lnkd.in/g879N9Dq #growthequity #healthtech #AI
