There’s a fascinating parallel between sales quotas and… …Formula 1 Racing! 🏎️🏁 Consider lap timings. Charles Leclerc currently holds the record for the fastest lap timing on the Australian GP - with an astonishing 1 minute 19 seconds! 🔥 Now let’s assume that the 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, is tasked to break this record. Here’s how Mercedes might set the target timing: 🎯 Scenario 1: Leveraging their car’s exceptional design and Hamilton’s dexterity, they opt for an ambitious timing of 50 seconds. 🎯 Scenario 2: Using Leclerc’s timing as benchmark, they set a target of 1 minute and 15 seconds, gauging Hamilton’s ability to achieve it. If you choose scenario 1, your quotas will be too challenging. Even your star sellers would feel that you’re swinging for the fences. Demoralization kicks in, but incentives don’t. Scenario 2 is the ideal way. By setting stretch goals, you enable your reps to do their best without feeling burnt out. They feel motivated to take up the challenge, and their probability of hitting 100% quota increases. #quotas #salesleadership #motivation #salesops #revops

Stat of the day: if all of Mclaren's best placings this year were driven by the same driver they would be ahead of Max in the drivers championship. Obviously it is a little too simplistic to say this is all strategy based and that any team orders could have this much control over an outcome. However... If the team chose one driver to back and that informed every move they made for a full season, would the outcome be different? Some would argue, with the army of workers who get the cars onto the start line of the grid, that Formula 1 is the ultimate team sport. So with that in mind, have Mclaren fallen at the final hurdle in trying to allow two individuals to share success? If you want the tedious link to business then I suppose we are talking about whether you'd split an account between two or three sales people to keep them all happy? #Performance #Team #Management #Winning

Lewis Hamilton's words to Mercedes after his final race with the team today--and one of the most historic runs in Formula 1 racing: "We dreamed alone, but together, we believed. As a team, we achieved things. Thank you for the courage, the determination, and the passion to support me. What started out as a leap of faith ended up as a journey into the history books. We did everything together. I am so grateful to everyone at the factory. From the bottom of my heart, thank you." For context, everyone told Hamilton that his move to Mercedes would be a massive mistake in 2013. At the time, Hamilton was leaving McLaren (where he won a 2008 championship) to go to a team that hadn't had a championship in over 50 years and had just re-entered F1 in 2010. From 2013 to his last race today, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes won six drivers championships and 8 constructors (team) championships. No other team has come close to such an achievement. This partnership is why I often look to Formula 1 for inspiration in leadership within my own career. Despite the focus often being on single drivers risking their lives on track, F1 is quintessentially a team sport where talented members build bleeding-edge technology back at the factory. They are literally competing with a margin of error measured at fractions of a second. It's a level of leadership within technology that I aspire to. Image Source: Clive Mason/Getty Images

Fifteen years ago, I interviewed Lewis Hamilton. He'd already won a World Champion title and it was clear that it wouldn't be his last. His focus, drive, and vision to keep pushing were all there. There's a wonderful bit of footage captured by Mercedes-AMG in the video link below that is simply entitled 'Thank you, Lewis' where a young Hamilton says 'imagine being in a Formula 1 car.' https://lnkd.in/eBhT4_nN There is so much to learn here: 1. The power of having a clear goal - he had it and he went for it. Dreaming big from a young age. 2. The power of visualisation - not only did he imagine being in an F1 car when he was just a young boy, but he will also have visualised being on each track, for each race, against each competitor. Using the power of visualisation to be at the top of his game 3. He didn’t just visualise, he took decisive action. Lewis is well known for his hard work and meticulous preparation because a dream without action is just a daydream. 4. High-performing teams value and respect each other - he may be leaving his team of over ten years to go to their rival, but they still celebrate and value him as the video shows. I can't wait to see what Lewis does next in his career with Ferrari! https://lnkd.in/eBhT4_nN

🚨 NEWS: FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem told Reuters that Andretti should buy an existing team instead of trying to push for an 11th entry. Andretti remains to continue their push to enter the F1 grid by 2026. After being initially approved by the FIA last year, they have been rejected by FOM who keep the door open for a 2028 when General Motors, under the Cadillac name, enter the sport and provide an engine. He said: “I would advise them to go and buy another team, not to come as the 11th team. I feel that some teams need to be refreshed. What is better?” “To have 11 teams as a number or 10 and they are strong? I still believe we should have more teams but not any teams. The right teams. It’s not about the number, it’s about the quality.” Ben Sulayem also says that there are teams on the grid struggling, not only in performance but also in management. This would a perfect opportunity for Andretti to buy such team. “Imagine the impact. We have three races in America. We have such a huge fan base. But we don’t have a proper (U.S.) team. I’m so happy to have Ford in (with Red Bull from 2026) but imagine having GM and imagine having American drivers.” Haas, Alpine and VCARB have been named as potential teams who could be taken over. However, as of now none of these are openly for sale. #F1 #Formula1 #Andretti #GeneralMotors #GM #Cadillac #FIA

Why Audi and Verstappen have complicated Formula 1’s driver market decisions: But while we have had some important decisions made already – like Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari and Fernando Alonso re-committing to Aston Martin – there remains a great deal still to be sorted. What is perhaps most fascinating though is that not everyone is running to the same timing agenda, and that has left things hugely complicated for both drivers and teams as they try to plot their best path ...Keep reading #motorsports #racing #cars

The world of Formula 1 is witnessing some big changes. Peter "Bono" Bonnington, Lewis Hamilton’s trusted race engineer, has signed a new contract with Mercedes. He is now "head of race engineering." This is a big career leap. Bono will still guide Hamilton and other Mercedes drivers during races. This is like the "Red Bull route" where Gianpiero Lambiase holds a similar dual role for Max Verstappen. With Hamilton likely moving to Ferrari, who will become his race engineer there? Riccardo Adami works closely with Carlos Sainz. It is still unclear if he will switch to support Hamilton. For fans, these changes are not just promotions. They give a look into the inner workings of teams like Mercedes and Red Bull. How will these moves impact Mercedes’ performance? Only time will tell. Want to know how these changes could reshape the future of Formula 1? Stay tuned to GPblog for updates and expert insights.
