The answer lies in a two-part approach: 1. Fight the Fear and Invest in People: If you need top talent, it’s crucial to overcome the fear that they may leave or cost too much. Look at the bigger picture and invest in the right individuals who will drive your mission forward. This investment pays off by attracting passionate, skilled professionals who are committed to your cause. 2. Engage and Empower Your Existing Talent: When investing in new hires isn’t feasible, focus on nurturing your current team. Provide them with engaging work that aligns with their passion for your mission. Support their growth and development, helping them to flourish and take their commitment to the next level. By adopting this strategy, nonprofits can not only attract the right talent but also retain and empower them, ensuring they continue to make a meaningful impact. Let's work together to strengthen your nonprofit's ability to attract and retain the best people for your mission. 🤔 Rethinking Nonprofit Hiring Priorities: A Call for Impact-Driven Growth 📈 As a consultant working with nonprofits struggling to optimize their mission, design, and effectiveness, I've noticed a constant trend that warrants discussion. The job postings and recruitment call-outs for development positions grow bigger by the week, yet the pool of available funding for nonprofits remains systemically capped. This raises an important question: Are we putting the cart before the horse? 🐎 While development roles are undoubtedly vital (please, development peeps, don't throw tomatoes at me 🍅), I'd argue that prioritizing evaluation and impact positions could yield more substantial results initially. Here's why: 🎯 Proven Impact Attracts Funding: When your work is sound, clear, and the community is singing your praises, funders take notice. 📊 Data-Driven Decision Making: Evaluation roles help organizations understand their true impact, allowing for more effective resource allocation. 🌱 Sustainability: By focusing on impact first, organizations build a stronger case for support, potentially leading to more stable long-term funding. 💰 Budget Considerations: Development positions can quickly strain organizational budgets if they're not immediately productive. Don't get me wrong – development roles are crucial (y'all rock). But perhaps we need to reconsider the sequence. By first investing in roles that solidify and communicate a nonprofit's impact, that organization can create a stronger foundation for future fundraising efforts. 🏗️ What are your thoughts? 💭 Have you seen this trend? How do you balance the need for fundraising with the imperative to demonstrate impact? #NonprofitLeadership #ImpactMeasurement #StrategicHiring #FundraisingInnovation #NonprofitEffectiveness #DataDrivenNonprofits #OrganizationalDevelopment #NonprofitConsulting #SustainableGrowth #MissionDriven

𝙒𝙀𝘿𝙉𝙀𝙎𝘿𝘼𝙔 𝙒𝙄𝙎𝘿𝙊𝙈 Strategic planning is essential for nonprofits, as it provides a roadmap for achieving their mission and maximizing impact. Developing a clear strategy involves setting both short-term and long-term goals, including a three-year highly achievable goal and a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) to drive organizational growth and innovation. Identifying your core customer and understanding their needs is crucial for tailoring programs and services to effectively meet their expectations. Distinguishing between core customers and stakeholders helps nonprofits focus their efforts on delivering value to those directly impacted by their work while also engaging and involving broader stakeholders in supporting the organization's mission. Recognizing competitors within the nonprofit sector or similar organizations operating in the same space allows nonprofits to learn from best practices, collaborate where possible, and differentiate themselves to attract funding and support. Defining key processes within the organization and establishing metrics to measure their effectiveness enables nonprofits to identify areas for improvement and track progress toward goals. Benchmarking against nonprofit best practices provides valuable insights into areas of strength and opportunities for growth, guiding strategic decision-making and continuous improvement efforts. By addressing these critical questions and adopting business concepts, nonprofits can enhance their organizational effectiveness, increase their ability to serve their community, and achieve greater impact. If you need assistance in developing your organization's strategy or answering these questions, feel free to reach out for support and guidance. #wednesdaywisdom #nonprofitleadership #proactiveleadershipgroup #executivecoaching

Having a strategic plan isn't enough. Having a strategic plan that works is EVERYTHING. I've see too many beautifully crafted strategies sit untouched in digital folders, collecting virtual dust. Why? Because there were built for the boardroom, not the real world. Strategy that works isn't a 100-page document filled with word salad. It's a living framework that: - Gets people excited to come to work every day - Helps everyone make better decisions, faster - Adapts when reality throws you curveballs (and it will) - Actually drives measurable results The hard truth? Most strategic plans fail not because they're bas ideas, but because they never bridge the gap between knowing and doing. What's your experience? Is your styrartegy plan driving real change, or is it getting you no where, fast? #LEADERSHIP #STRATEGY #BUSINESSGROWTH #EXECUTIVELEADERSHIP
🎯 Why You Need Strategic Planning That WORKS. Let's be honest - when you're running a small business or nonprofit, strategic planning might feel like a luxury you can't afford. But here's why it's actually essential for your growth and impact: The Real Benefits of Strategic Planning: • More efficient use of your limited resources • Clearer decision-making in day-to-day operations • Better volunteer and staff engagement • Increased funding opportunities • Stronger community impact Common Roadblocks we've Seen: • "We're too busy putting out daily fires" • "We don't have the expertise in-house" • "Our resources are already stretched thin" • "Previous planning efforts didn't lead anywhere" ✨ But here's what happens when you get it right: Focus & Clarity Your team knows exactly what matters most, making daily decisions easier and more aligned with your mission. Resource Optimization Even with limited resources, you'll know where to invest your time and money for maximum impact. Small Changes, Big Results You don't need a 100-page strategic plan. Start with: • A clear one-page strategic framework • Quarterly action plans • Monthly check-ins • Celebration of small wins Remember: Strategy doesn't have to be complicated to be effective.
