Continuous Discovery is a powerful approach to product development that ensures the product remains customer-centric, feasible, usable, and viable. By validating high-risk assumptions, engaging all team members, and employing effective discovery approaches, teams can create products that truly resonate with customers and stand out in the market. https://ow.ly/BR9V50TAGFJ Sunil Gulia #ScrumTeams #ContinuousDiscovery

Every successful feature has a story—from concept to launch. But what does the journey of a feature truly look like? It's a path filled with brainstorming, development, testing, and continuous improvement. Understanding this journey is key to delivering features that resonate with users. CONTINUOUS DISCOVERY IS FEATURE DISCOVERY The term "discovery" has become overloaded and it's easy to get confused. Historically, we thought about product development in two broad phases: 1. Product Discovery 2. Product Delivery The goal of product discovery is to make a formal, well-informed decision about developing a product before we make a risky investment in it. All initial investments in product development are risky because most products fail! Product discovery usually involves a team putting together a critical amount of information so that leadership can "greenlight" development. Once we decide to develop the product, we must determine how it will evolve feature-wise as we assume it won't be complete in one, initial iteration. This activity has gone by various names historically. Within the last several years, we hear a lot about "continuous discovery" -- talking to "customers" etc. The prevailing thinking on this topic tends to be a bit misguided (more on this later), but the basic activity is something teams have always done. BTW, while doing feature discovery, we may discover an opportunity that merits product discovery! The upshot? Continuous delivery is about discovering features, not products. These processes have multiple notable differences (see table). Not all discovery is the same. Don't get it twisted! #product #productmanagement #prodmgmt #productdiscovery

Product Discovery is about reducing risk. We do this through research to gain confidence that we’re solving a meaningful problem is the best possible way. Here's 3 core components of product discovery 👇 1. Reducing risk by testing our assumptions: We reduce risk by making sure we're: - solving a meaningful problem (desirable) - it works and makes sense for our business (viable) - and we can technically do it (feasible) Also known as DVF (Desirability, Viability & Feasibility). Some people like to break out what I would call sub-categories; like usability, valuable, ethical, etc too - that's totally fine, do what works for you! 2. Problem vs Solution We must do 1. across both the solution and problem space. Early in the process we may be more focused on the problem space and later on, the solution. This means at the beginning discovery looks more like customers interviews, market research, gathering data, etc and later in the process is more user testing and AB testing. 3. Diverging and Converging Lastly we need to make sure we’re going through a series of divergence and convergence. I personally don’t like the double diamond (or triple diamond… or the 8 diamond discovery process!?) because I find it misleading... it's not as clean cut as X number of diverging and converging. Instead we go through a continuous process of diverging and converging. At different levels too (both macro and micro). It's more like many overlapping diamonds (🔷🔹🔷🔷🔹🔹🔷...) The key principle to take away is that we need to make sure we’re continuously diverging and converging. And avoiding things like, premature convergence (this could be on a problem space that we haven’t properly explored or jumping to a solution) 👀👇 More (and how to get started with Product Discovery!) on Youtube https://lnkd.in/g6vWxvHa
