During aerospace manufacturing and maintenance operations, what appears to be a simple scratch could be anything but. Even a “minor” surface anomaly can significantly affect a mechanical part and its fatigue resistance in high-stress environments, with rotating parts being especially susceptible. To properly evaluate the quality of a component, it’s vital to conduct detailed local measurement, with depth and local curvature being a couple of examples.
