“I want to get to a point where we can have guys like me in a film and I’m just there. Where the disability isn’t the raison d’etre for me being there. Because I often say, ‘My disability is the least interesting thing about me.’” Adam Pearson is an actor starring in the film, A Different Man, which released last month. The recently "Wicked", based on the long running musical theatre production, touches on several interesting social topics. For me, one of the most interesting is the depiction of one of the main characters, a person with a disability. In the movie we are reminded that in our society people with disabilities are mostly on the margins. As described on the website of the Center for an Accessible Society: "They are perceived as individuals with a problem, a "victim" who has "suffered" a "tragedy." Individuals with disabilities are considered objects of pity and charity, persons (barely) who cannot work or be expected to take a full role in society. They are a burden (often resented) to be carried by their families or on public welfare assistance.” The songs in the movie remain true to the stage production, referring to the character as "tragically beautiful", a seemingly well-meaning phrase that is just full of ableism. But, as the article discusses, the movie opens a conversation that is worth having about how persons with disabilities should be allowed to participate in society. I am posting today to help in bringing awarenesss towards a challenge in which “Easter Seals” puts on each year within the spring. They call it the “Easter Seals Disability Film Challenge” in which we try to bring more awareness to other industries, companies, and businesses to what the disabled community can do. As well as what we can provide to taht of using certain technology that is out there. From editing, to music, acting, writing, editing, and even adding in Audio Description. Which that is what I bring to the table for them, for the past two or three years I’ve been helping three friends who have participated in the challenge for a while in which I add in my recording to be edited into the film not by me of course. It adds in that of describing what is going on within the film for those who can’t see it for themselves. So in the spirit of getting theword out and making the world more aware I’ve added below the link in which I hope that you will watch, share, and if any comments, or likes are welcome to be added. I really think you’ll enjoy in watching this little film which is only five or six minutes long! Please go watch, like, and share to all your friends and family! The more views and likes and what not we get the more likely we can achieve not only awareness more but also a chance to get the award for this! FILM SYNOPSIS Time traveling agents from the future, Michael Altair and Jericho Wade, are assigned by Z.i.P.O. A recent survey by Inevitable Foundation featured in Variety reveals significant audience dissatisfaction with current disability representation in entertainment. 66% of audiences are unsatisfied with how disability and mental health are portrayed on screen, and 40% are very likely to recommend shows with authentic disability representation. Not only is representation the right thing to do, but it can also lead to more word of mouth and more ticket sales/viewers! #Broadway #Theatre #DisabilityRepresentation #InclusiveStorytelling #InvestInBroadway #TheatreInvestors #MentalHealthAwareness https://lnkd.in/d-6CQeCt

Very important field and details for which a large amount of awareness and understanding is still needed.
In a landmark moment in Indian history, the Supreme Court on July 8 issued a series of guidelines for the depiction of disabled and neurodivergent individuals in films, TV shows and online content. The guidelines are for creators, directors, producers and various other stakeholders in media that play a role in creating and disseminating films and content in the public domain. One of the sections in the final document released by the SC, titled Caveat, clearly laid down the distinction between disability humour and disabled humour. While the former ‘challenges conventional wisdom about disability,’ the latter ‘demeans and disparages persons with disability,’ the order said.
