Anyone interested in a super cheap home battery that comes with a free car? I recently sold my Leaf 24 kWh, the first EV I’ve owned. It’s been an amazing car, lovely to drive over my 4 years of ownership and maintenance free outside of the usual mechanical issues found with all cars, but it was time for something with a little longer range. It’s 10 years old and over that time has lost between 10-15% of its capacity as a rough guess - the state of battery health gauge shows 11 out of 12 bars. According to EV Database the usable capacity for this model of Leaf is 22 kWh. So let’s say there is 19 kWh usable capacity remaining. Looking at comparable cars on Autotrader based on age, condition, and mileage, the value of the car was in the region of £3.5k to £4k. Forgetting for a minute that it’s a car, that gives a battery cost of around £185 to £210 per kWh. A search doesn’t yield stationary battery costs anywhere near that low - they vary a lot but are more in the £1000 / kWh range. While a stationary battery comprises of more than the battery itself, making £/kWh not a direct comparison, the same is also true of an EV battery, even more so. In the case of the Nissan Leaf, it is one of only three EVs that can access the UK’s only vehicle-to-grid tariff (from Octopus Energy). V2G is not vehicle-to-home, so again not a direct comparison to a stationary battery, but a step in that direction and presumably not long before V2H becomes an option for a Leaf. I’ve now sold my Leaf and bought a second hand VW ID.3, and love it, but there are plenty of early model Leafs for sale. So grab yourself a bargain: a value-for-money EV that also could power your home with the right kit. #energytransition #electricvehicles

Judging by the sales figures, I would air towards the latter.
