BE MORE ROO!... Why ROO "Return on Objectives" is better than ROI Many that know me, or have seen me present or speak will be familiar with the term I use "Be more ROO" but what does this actually mean? In the world of accounting events , ROI (Return on Investment) has long been the golden metric. However, focusing solely on ROI might miss the mark. This is where ROO steps in as a more holistic and strategic measure. And from talking to vendors who sponsor many events, this may be a better metric to use than just ROI. With a high amount of events this Spring I wanted to get sales and marketing teams to really think about how they measure success of what they define as "successful" event to exhibit at. The answer is normally "ROI" and I feel that this term is used too freely, but it is a lot more than that surely!?... Historically it's been the amount if people they scanned, how many demos they signed up, how many converted to a sale...but is this a good metric to use anymore? Is data really King/Queen anymore? ROO provides a broader perspective by measuring how well events achieve specific business goals, unlike ROI which focuses on financial returns, 🔴Evaluate the qualitative benefits 🔴Think about a more comprehensive view of you event success 🔴Brand awareness 🔴Account management of existing client 🔴And potential new clients (of course!) So, to simply summarise, be more ROO.... It might not be a surprise to most. But I am a massive believer in finding your niche! I think it is important to niche because: 🤩 Allows you to develop deep expertise to service the clients in your niche 🤩 Builds trust because you can speak the same language as your clients 🤩 It simplifies marketing and branding 🤩 Allows you to be efficient and productive as you can simplify processes 🤩 Allows you to be more focused, and this is a win for your clients So, now that you have a niche, find time to attend conferences in your niche. I often attend wine industry conferences (I have attended 5 this year). They are important, and the main reasons why are: 💪 Allows you to build a knowledge base in this niche area 💪 Allows you to network with people and other professionals in your niche 💪 It is a great opportunity for business development and finding possible new client leads Attend conference. Do you find it easy to prioritise what really matters or do you get distracted like me? 🤪 Last week I was getting distracted while trying to prioritise the preparation of a new webinar 🙄 And then I thought, maybe I can put into practice some of the techniques I'l be sharing during the webinar titled: How do you prioritise what really matters in your practice and career? 🤣 An old blog post of mine had prompted a booking for me to present a fresh webinar for members of the Association of International Accountants (AIA) next week. I'm very much looking forward to the webinar and have pulled together and summarised everything I have learned on the topic 🤓 The blog post that prompted the request was itself inspired by a discussion with members of the Sole Practice Club about the challenges of prioritising. So I have invited members of the Club to a sneak preview of next week's webinar. It'll take place this Thursday afternoon and will be followed by a Q&A.
