If you think you can build success by yourself, I’m here to tell you—you can’t. No one gets to the top without the right people in their corner. You can put yourself in the spotlight, but to truly shine, you need a network of people who help you get there.
I’ve learned that you don’t have to be everything to everyone. It’s okay to recognize when something isn’t in your wheelhouse and pass it to someone better equipped to help. That’s where the power of your network comes in.
Here’s a perfect example: I have a client—a successful entrepreneur with $1 billion in assets—who asked me to help him book guests on his podcast. While I could do it, it’s not where my expertise lies, and I knew it wouldn’t serve us both well. So, I referred him to someone in my network who specializes in exactly that.
That’s the key—success isn’t just about what you can do. It’s about who you know, how you collaborate, and having the humility to ask for help or share opportunities.
Here’s what I’ve learned about leveraging your network:
1️⃣ You Can’t Be Everything: Focus on what you’re great at and don’t be afraid to delegate or refer other tasks to experts in your network.
2️⃣ Build Relationships, Not Just Connections: The value of your network isn’t the number of people you know—it’s the depth of your relationships with them.
3️⃣ Put Yourself Out There: You can’t build a network without stepping into new spaces, meeting new people, and showing up consistently.
4️⃣ Create Win-Wins: When you connect others to opportunities, you’re building goodwill, trust, and future collaborations.
Success isn’t built in isolation. It’s built through collaboration, relationships, and a strong network of people who bring out the best in you.
Who’s in your circle helping you grow? And how are you showing up for others in your network?

Listening to a podcast about starting and growing business, the business owner talked about the first four years:
Year 1 - Chaos
Year 2 - Hellish
Year 3 - Progress
Year 4 - Wealth
This got me thinking about resilience - how resilient are you and how resilient do you need to be within business - especially when starting, growing, diversifying and so on.
What are some of the things that help with resilience:
- Have a great up to date plan - a roadmap
- Your mindset - expectations of bumps along the way
- Building a great team around you - to support and assist you
I have worked with so many businesses going through these exact circumstances. Progress is key.
Running your own business can be very tough - but stick at it
'Dont give up before your business does' - in other words, dont give up just before you enjoy the business break through.
The best and most successful businesses take time to nurture and grow.

I’m not one for resolutions. But I am one for intentions…
2024… ideas turned into action, and activity became momentum. Many meaningful firsts 🙏
One highlight was sitting down with Michelin-star chef George Mendes for my new podcast, The Heart and Hustle of Portugal.
George isn’t just a chef; he’s an artist and a leader. His intentional approach and care for his craft remind us that mastery is in the process not the outcome.
That’s the mindset I’m bringing into 2025 (thank you Chef!).
Here is my 5 for ‘25…
1. Refining the craft.
Growing my venture, sharpening the podcast’s purpose, and amplifying more voices. 2025 will be about defining their purpose with a capital “P”.
2. Leading with presence.
Mentoring talent, collaborating on impactful projects like Tribeca Lisboa ’25 (so much more!). More time on the ground - IRL - with partners across the Atlantic!
3. Balancing ambition and well-being.
Recharging at my childhood home or simply unplugging to show up fully for family, clients and friends. More reflection to feed the head, heart and soul.
4. Acting with intention.
Choosing to work on projects that align with my values and objectives, even when it means saying no. Less activity, more purpose.
5. Elevating connections.
Nurturing relationships that inspire, challenge, and teach me. Nurturing relationships that point to the future. Let’s connect here.
Happy New Year to each of you.
Here’s to building, leading, and growing with purpose in 2025. What’s your 5 for ‘25?
Vamos! Let’s Go!

Of course, we have networking, and we believe the networking we offer is the best around, mainly because we offer a wide range of meetings on different days and different times to try to suit as many people as possible.

Come along and see how we give everyone 3-4 minutes to talk about their businesses and then we open up to the room for questions and conversation, it is in these conversations that we often find golden nuggets.
In Person meetings - Currently once per month in Kent, we have 1 meeting in Thanet and we are launch in Canterbury, Folkestone and Medway within the next few months.
Simply Conversational Podcast - A podcast where we interview members of the club and find out about them and how they do what they do and how they can help everyone to achieve the next level
SBC Magazine - A magazine that shares positive business articles, tips and advice and we focus on how we can help business professionals

What great conversation I had with my guest Michael Fabber on this week’s #InspiredChoices show! One of the things he said about business that really stood out was this: “You must understand who you are speaking to and what they need.”

WHAT DRIVES YOUR COMPANY…
THE STORY or THE COMPETITION?
I am on a lifelong pursuit to understand why some companies are more successful than others, not just in terms of profitability but how they impact people, society, and the planet.
I found that companies that make a positive impact and profit are more “Story-Driven” than vs. “Competition-Driven.”
“Story-Driven” companies focus on how they can best serve the needs of their people, customers, communities, and the planet, and prosperity follows.
“Competition-Driven” companies are more reactive to competition and do not first respond to the needs of people, customers, communities, and our planet.
“Story Driven”
- Responsive to customers and all other stakeholders.
- Winning by mattering.
“Competition Driven”
- Reactive to the competition.
- Winning by only achieving profit.
Many businesses fall into the trap of continuously chasing competitors, often losing sight of their vision and values, which initially were to make the world a better place.
A great example of a “Story-driven” company is Zingerman’s Community of Businesses.
They thrive by prioritising community and employee engagement over competition. They have built a brand known for its strong values and purpose, which has led to long-term success and loyalty.
By shifting focus from competing to mattering, businesses can create a more sustainable and impactful presence in their industry and long-term healthy profit.
What drives your company; is it the competition or the story?

I recently listened to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ interview with Gina McCarthy on JLD's podcast, "Wiser Than Me," and this stoicism-based wisdom struck a chord since it's easy to become consumed by uncertainties and challenges that we simply cannot influence.
Instead of letting these worries drain your energy, consider redirecting that focus. Concentrate on what you can control: your actions, your responses, and your mindset. This shift not only fosters resilience but also enhances productivity.
Focus instead on what you 𝘤𝘢𝘯 control: your actions, your mindset, and how you respond to challenges. Shift that energy toward problem-solving, innovation, and making the most of the opportunities at hand.
What do you think about this stoic wisdom? Does it resonate with you? Do you subscribe to this way of thinking? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This is one of the best ways to motivate your employee ! 🤯
Had a lightbulb moment listening to Raj Shamani podcast with Dr. Velumani! Dr. Velumani's approach to leading his team hit home for me.
Here's the scoop: Instead of hiring from outside, Dr. Velumani believed in promoting from within. He left seats open above his employees, showing them they had room to grow. It wasn't about years on the job; it was about smarts.
Simple truth: Promotions were based on brains, not just how long you've been around.
Let's take a page from Dr. Velumani's book. Let's build workplaces where everyone knows they have a shot at climbing the ladder. Cheers to promoting talent and making every day count!
