🛑 I stopped being active on LinkedIn a year ago - it was not serving me at the time, on the contrary, it was taking too much energy from me. 𝐒𝐨... 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐧𝐨𝐰?  𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐭 - 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞! This past year has been incredible, with too many highlights to share... but here's a glimpse: 🙌 I worked part-time at The Hague Humanity Hub as Campus Sales Manager - and became part of one of the most dedicated, purpose-driven, kind, friendly, and welcoming teams I ever had the pleasure of working with! While my time with them has come to an end, they are looking for a new Campus Sales & Ops Manager! I'll leave the link to the vacancy in the comments - I cannot recommend them enough! ✈ I traveled to Spain for a month and participated in #thebreakfellowship, where I met the most incredible women entrepreneurs. I went there to work on ALCIVE Studio, but during my time there I realized there's another passion project I want to focus on as well. You'll hear about it later this year! 💫 I continued to work via ALCIVE Studio with the most incredible clients, saving the founders time so they can focus on what matters most for growing their businesses. Beyond thankful for their trust in me, and for everything I get to learn while working alongside them! 💚 I started being asked for advice on being or becoming a freelancer. It might seem insignificant, but for me it was a big deal: it helped me recognise how far I've come in the past 2 years, that I am now in the position to advise others! Something I didn't even dare to dream of when I first started on my own. 💃 I learned to take better care of myself, say no, stop feeling guilty unnecessarily, and respect my own boundaries. Self-care I think is the trending word? It's an ongoing process, but there's progress, and I'm so grateful for it. I could not have managed the busyness of the past year without this. 🐥 Most important of all, I've been busy growing a little human, who is about to meet the world in the coming weeks. There's no words to describe the incredible journey so far, and how excited (and a bit nervous) I am for this life-long adventure to start! 𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞? I'm taking a bit of time to enjoy the summer and focus on and nurture our new family format 💚. I am attending my first ever Young Proffesionals event (but this will certainly not be my last ❤️). I am currently listening to the work experience held by Browne Jacobson and I felt it necessary to share some of the helpful tips: 1. Network - Ensure that you have an extensive network and that you continue to keep in contact as you never know when new opportunities may arise. ⬆️ 2. Check work - As simple as it sounds ensure that all work produced is checked and carefully written. 📝 3. Applications - Applications to a puppilage take time it is better to write a few quality ones that a dozen rushed ones. ✅ 4. Keep going - Lady Hale discussed the importance of resilience and that no matter the circumstances that life has given you, you must keep going. 👍 I cannot wait to see what the future speakers have in store ✨Dan M. Coming into university I had no experience that was directly applicable to the degree I was doing. ❌ I worked throughout sixth form in a school uniform & sportswear shop and didn’t really have any direction in what I was doing university for. I had good GCSE results so sixth form was the next obvious step. 🤔 My A-level results weren’t great but weren’t bad either so university was on the cards. It all felt too much like things were happening to me, not I was making things happen. Part-time work changed this for me and here’s why: 💡 Creative freedom: ⚒ So many roles I’ve held over the past 2 years have had a simple description of bringing in business. This has changed form multiple times but the overarching demand is the same: generate organic engagement and convert them into leads for applications, potential customers, or users for an app or website! Being paid to build a community of young people looking for curation of the content around them, tailored down to their specific needs is quite simply something I find interesting. Representing clients of personal interest: 📸 An amazing feature of ambassador roles is being able represent companies, universities, or institutions that you personally support. In my first year as an ambassador I was lucky enough to represent companies such as Softcat and KPMG UK. Being able to see their offices, see what a day to day is like, and going through their hiring process. Really gave me a sense of life post university and helps you begin to think about what you really want. Confidence within the job market: 📈 Getting to know so many companies and hearing from the 100s of students I’ve spoken to over the 2 years at university, I’ve listened to so many differing aspirations. Being able to help these individuals in any way boosts my own confidence when it comes to applying to roles myself or building up a business. Overall my part-time roles gave me the confidence to begin a business with my brother Liam-Elio Colabuono-McDonagh. 🤝 The network I built up made it possible! From within the first week of launch we had 50+ connections on our newly launched business LinkedIn page - CMD Careers 😎 30 + reposts across out content, and so many members of our community reaching out to me with ways to help either through contributions to our blogs or attendance at our upcoming events! If yo know friends that are applying to roles this academic year and want some guidance on how you can help them to properly prepare for applications then, please repost our content to bring it to them! ♻

Hello everyone! Since I'm just starting out with my page, I would like to share the story of my VA journey with you. May this serve as an inspiration and motivation for all my fellow VAs and aspiring VAs 🤍 Keep sending applications, whether you meet all the qualifications or not. Ask for feedback despite the rejections. Learn and grow from it, strategize, and optimize. I was a second-year college in Tourism Management when I got pregnant. So finding a job was hard because I couldn't leave my baby and I didn't finish my degree. I tried applying online with different websites but was always rejected due to lack of experience and also, because I didn't know how to make a proper resume and a catchy portfolio before. So, even when I did find a job, I often ended up with red-flag clients with lowball offers. My journey to my dream job was very difficult and it took me a very long time to finally realize that I was doing it wrong. I used to self-study on how to become a Virtual Assistant, but it was very challenging to understand everything on my own. So, what I did is I tried to do a lot of research until I found a Virtual Assistant course to enroll in. The course was quite expensive but I took the risk, for me to develop my skills and fortunately, this led to multiple job offers. So, to tell you the truth nothing here is easy. But if you have the courage and the confidence you'll probably get to where you want to be. Just don't stop searching for ways on how to make things work in your favor and always strive to develop your skills because one day your persistence and dedication will pay off. Studying in your 30s ain't for the faint hearted. I always dreamed 😍 of being an Event Manager, since the vision hit me in my final year of uni. It was the creativity and varsility of pulling an immersive experience together really had me hooked. 12 years later, I've planned + delivered over 1000+ absolutely incredible events (as an employee and as business owner) and enjoyed every minute of it. Yet I sit here feeling like a beginner again 😮💨. You know that saying "hit your glass ceiling" well, that's sums up my events career. Now, i'm a student again. Embarking on an entirely new career, new idustry, new me. Yet, I can't help but think... "am i doing the right thing?"... "Is this worth it?"... "Can i really afford to do this now?" These questions pop up, on a never-ending loop in my head when I have: > work early in the morning; > an 1200 essay to write; > 3 weekly reviews to catch up on; > a research presentation to practice; > plus be present at home; > and find time for myself. I think back to when I was in uni and all i had to contend with was balancing a weekend job for a few hours. (And i thought that was hard 😄) Deciding to completely up root your career when you have responsibilities and a family doesn't come as an easy decision (at all). It will have you doubting your choice every damn day but on the flip side make you so determined 💪🏾 to make it to the end (and make quitting not even a valuable option.) However this 👇🏾 question still remains unclear for me: " how do you balance your personal/professional goals with your resposibilites to your family without feeling like you have to give up one to have the other? And nooo, not the backdoor that you might be thinking of, my dearest South Africans! 😂👀 But the kind of backdoor that stands for trying out new things, pushing portfolio work, entrepreneurship, content creation, and being proactive beyond your current circumstances. It’s the door where we don’t just wait for opportunities; we create them ourselves. Sure, behind the main door, there’s the promise of stability, consistent income, benefits, and comfort. But here’s the truth about the main door: Only one person can walk through it at a time. What do I mean? → Submitting a CV and 'waiting 2 weeks' for feedback can sometimes turn into 4 years of unemployment and no income. → That promotion you've been eyeing might get postponed, leaving you feeling stuck and unfulfilled in your job. → Even a cum laude graduate might not get accepted into a master’s program on their first try, feeling like their career has hit a dead-end before it even begins. Basically, the “ladder” we all want to climb still exists, but it’s not there for everyone to climb. Make no mistake though, we will get to the top, and here’s how: Starting today, I’m committing to a 3-week content series inspired by Rosabeth Moss Kanter’s TED Talk: The Only 3 Career Steps That Matter: Inclusion - Getting in the door → Influence - Gaining a seat at the table → Impact - Making a difference outside the building. My goal is to equip hardworking early-career professionals with practical tools and insights on how to get in the door, become influential, and make a difference. I’ll also be connecting with various industry leaders in a segment I call #AskAPerson, where they will answer some of the thorny questions that tend to block our paths to success at different stages. #showerthoughts Why is career in sales not a default choice for top talented kids? I asked my teen-kids to research and none of their peers who are top-5 in their class considers this kind of job. Instead, they want classical positions which are recognized in the society and bring some kind of good: doctor/veterinarian, engineer/programmer, architect, ... As a parent what do I wish for my kids? I want them to have a fulfilling but also financially solid job. And coincidentally attractive sales & business development positions: 👉 have probably one of highest expected salary growth curves 👉 largely rely on one's creativity and ability to operate independently 👉 require all key skills that made the kid become a top student: ability to learn and grow, all types of intelligence, discipline and focus 👉 provide infinite growth possibilities vertically and horizontally So it all makes sense on paper but somehow is either unknown to children or unattractive in comparison to other possibilities. What can I do next? 💡 show examples, role-models ➡ let the kids connect the dots themselves 💡 encourage curiosity ➡ have teens attend open days in various workplaces (BTW I love the concept of National Future Day / Nationaler Zukunftstag in Switzerland where teens are invited to visit companies for 1 day) 💡let them free ➡ since they are smart they will follow the right path for them anyway This is just a #showerthought 🤔 The topic is so broad and deep and should rather be covered in an essay or a study but instead I leave it to you to comment and react.
